“Jace,” I scold. He just glares at the doctor before he takes my hand into his.
“Yes, I haven’t gotten used to that part of the job yet either, I’m afraid. Now, I just need to ask you some questions, Rory. Standard procedure,” Flynn informs me. He gets straight to the point and I’m grateful for it.
“Okay.”
“Alright. What is your name and date of birth?” He first asks and I rattle that off.
“Do you remember everything prior to the accident? What were you doing?” Flynn asks.
“We’d just gone to my friend's house. We were driving home when someone drove into the side of the car,” I tell him, easily.
“Okay and do you know where you are?” Flynn fiddles with the chart at the end of my bed as he speaks.
“The hospital? I don’t know which. Jace said it was two hours from…the house and one hour from his parents.” I shrug. No one told me what the hospital was called.
Flynn nods and his face grows serious. “Now, Rory, I have to ask these next few questions. Would you prefer your partners to leave or stay?”
I tense, my hand tightening around Jace’s.
“No, they can stay,” I tell him firmly.
He looks at me for a moment as if to check I’m sure of my decision, then nods again.
“During your preliminary assessment, I noticed that you have several other injuries, almost healed ones, that would not have come from this accident,” Flynn says carefully.
He saw. What if he tells someone?
I shrink back into Mase, feeling that shortness of breath return.
“Angel, look at me, sweetie,” Mase softly demands. I meet his eyes and the panicking feeling slowly evaporates.
“It’s okay, Angel. He has to ask. We won’t let anything happen to you,” Mase promises, his hand holding one side of my face.
“What Mase said.” Jace lifts my hand, pressing his lips to my knuckles.
I exhale and nod. Mase kisses my forehead and I lean into him as I turn back to face the doctor.
He’s smiling at us. “Sooo…I’m guessing not your partners?”
My eyes bug out of my head and I quickly shake my head. “No, the guys would never hurt me.”
Flynn nods. “I had to ask,” he tells me. “When you were first brought in, we contacted immediate family and it was flagged in our system that you requested emancipation from your father prior to you turning eighteen.”
My body stiffens.
“Did you call him?” Luc demands, getting to his feet.
The doctor shakes his head. “No, I didn’t. As Rory’s injuries are not life threatening, I was waiting for her to wake up and tell me whether or not she has him to blame for her ribs, out of proportion fingers and the scars in places you wouldn't normally see.” Flynn lists things off his fingers.
“Luci,” I whisper. Luc comes over and sits on the edge of the bed. He entwines our fingers over Mase.
“Rory?” Flynn prompts.
My eyes flick around the guys. I don’t know what to tell him. If Alec was awake…he’d know what to say.
“Umm…” I lock eyes with Maverick. He nods slightly. I bite my lip and nod.
“Y-yes,” I stumble. “It was him.”
