“No, you won’t.”

His lips tip up behind his beard. “I’ll want to.”

I press a kiss to his cheek, then snuggle up next to him while the opening credits roll. “Thank you,” I whisper.

He wraps me tighter. “Worth it.”

Chapter 31

Flint

June texts that she’s made it to Florida and is safely with her grandparents around dinnertime.

Maisey scowls at the phone. “Are you serious right now? Dean couldn’t even be bothered to pick her up? Just because I want to be her favorite parent doesn’t mean I want her to feel like she only has one parent.”

I run my fingers through her hair. “She’ll be a very discerning adult when it comes to who she trusts when she grows up.”

That earns me a look I’m not prepared for. “Is that what you are?”

“You hungry? I can cook.”

She bawks softly like a chicken.

It’s the funniest, cutest, most unexpected noise she’s ever made, and it cracks me up.

She leans back on the couch and smiles. “And that’s one point for me ...”

“I’ll give you three,” I reply, still chuckling.

“Three ... points?” She wiggles her eyebrows.

My dick goes hard in an instant. “Is that what you want? Points?”

Her nose wrinkles like she’s thinking hard, but those eyes—they’re sparkling with mischief and fun.

Not the most mischief and fun I’ve ever seen on her face, but enough.

“Are you offering three of something else?” she asks.

“Suppose that would depend on what thatsomething elsewas. I have my standards. And my boundaries.”

“So you won’t give me three impressions of your coworkers?”

That grin.

That grin is utterly irresistible, and I want to kiss it.

I lean in close to her. “I only do my impressions for people I need to scare away.”

“Are they that bad?” Her eyes dance as they dip to my mouth.

“They’re terrible.” I brush my lips against hers, softly, rubbing them back and forth, teasing her without taking the kiss any further.

She strokes my cheek and beard, and her eyes drift shut. “This is not terrible,” she whispers against my lips.

“It can get better.”

She shivers. “I know.”
