“Most popular in Tickled Pink is still better than least popular in Manhattan.”
“Is not.”It totally is. I’d take Dylan over practically everyone I know back in New York.
LA too.
My brother snorts softly. “Get some sleep, buttface. It’s good for yoursoul.”
Sleep would be amazing for a lot of reasons, but I can’t sleep. I have a school to clean, a surprise party to plan, and a business to launch.
Getting away from my family would be good for my soul.
But I also can’t do that.
Yet.
Not until new financing is secure for the farm and until we have a product to launch, which will besoon.
Naomi got the last samples I sent and forwarded them to the richest chocoholic I know, and we have a different meeting set with another potential investor to pitch Celebr8 Sweets.
If this works, it’ll begoodbye, old life.
Goodbye, family.
Goodbye, influencer job.
And goodbye to this crush on a small-town plumber who kisses like a damn angel.
Chapter 21
Tavi
Filed underthings I never thought I needed to know: cabinets are heavy.
“Niles!” I shriek. “Niles! Are you here?”
Take the cabinets down so you can paint the teachers’ lounge, Tavi,I thought. You’re a beast. They can’t be that heavy.
Actually, yes, they can, and I can’t see my dog, and I’m about to drop this damn thing or possibly fall backward through the open window.“Niles!”
“Holy shit,” a voice that doesnotbelong to Niles answers. “Scoot, Pebbles. What thehell, Tavi?”
The bulk of the weight lifts off my fingers.
“Squat,” Dylan orders.
I do as I’m instructed, and a moment later, he appears over the top of the cabinet, which is now on the ground.
He glares at me, which is both hot and irritating. “Why are you doing this by yourself?”
Because I can’t leave to go shopping for Shiloh’s party supplies until all my freaking chores are done, and I can’t get back to the church until I give Ridhi an update on plans.
Stupid favors.
Stupid better poker player than me.
“It looked like fun, Dylan. Why do you think?”
“There is literally not one single good reason I can think of.” He sighs and rubs a hand over his face. “Just—don’t do it again, okay? Get help next time.”
