Whatever it was she wanted to say, I wanted to know, especially if it made her this crazy. If something was playing on her mind, then she needed to spit it out so I could fix it.

Rolling her under me, I pinned her to the bed and cupped her face in her hands, forcing her to meet my eyes.

“Kellie Louise Knight. You fucking own me mind, body, and soul. Forever. You get that? This isn’t just a fling. This is us. You and me, together forever. And you just had my cock in your mouth. Nothing you ask me is going to make me run. Not now, not ever. So, whatever you want to say to me, do it.”

“I don't want you to think…”

“Kellie…”

“Fine. But can you get off me?”

“You weren’t complaining last night.”

“Jake…”

Reluctantly, I rolled off her but held her tight. She wasn’t going anywhere, and we were having this conversation.

“Now, what do you want to know?”

“You’re not going to let this go, are you?”

“Marshmallow…”

Seriously! This woman was as stubborn as that bull in the barn that made me consider turning him into mincemeat on a daily basis. Between them, I’d be gray before my time.

“Fine,” she declared with a huff, and I was really starting to hate that word. “Last night, when you told me about your dad and what he said…”

“Yes…” I was wondering how long it’d take until she circled back to this. As long as I’d known her, Kellie had never been one to simply let things go. She would sit on it, mull it over, then come back with questions.

“You said you wanted to marry me.”

“I said that,” I confirmed, trying to keep the smile from my face.

“You said there was a ring.”

“I did.”

“Um…”

“What do you want to know, sweetheart?” I was encouraged and loved where this conversation was headed. She might be as nervous as hell to ask me, but she should know by now I’d never deny her. Never.

I felt her take a deep breath before she spoke. Then as softly as she could mumble, she asked, “Where is it now?”

I couldn’t help it.

I looked like the damn Joker with a wide grin on my face.

Carefully, I untangled her from my arms and rolled away from her, chuckling quietly to myself as I heard the hiss escape from her lips. Prying open the bedside drawer, I groped around until my fingers wrapped around the velvet box before I turned back to face her.

Holding up the box proudly, I watched as Kellie’s eyes went wide, and her mouth fell open. “You mean this one?”

ChapterTwenty-Seven

Kellie

“You mean this one?”

Jake was waving around a velvet box like it was nothing. Like it just hadn’t knocked me sideways. He hadn’t even opened it. It could be an empty box for all I knew, and he was just being a shithead taunting me, but I didn’t think he’d do that. On other things, one hundred and ten percent he would but not about this.
