“This one first.” He handed it to me. Slowly, I pulled the lid off, seeing a cell phone lying right on top. “This way, you can call or text me at any time, no matter where either of us are. Also, Asher will be thrilled to have you to text to. Both his number and mine are already there.”

Then, he handed me the other box. Inside was a tablet similar to the one I’d seen him use once ortwice. “This way, you can read, play games, or watch things on it.”

“Thank you, Sir.” I didn’t know what else to say.

“I already downloaded the TV apps and logged in, so it’s ready to go. It’ll give you ways to find something to do with your time.”

I didn’t exactly know how to use either of them. Well, I did in some ways. But did I really need them?

“I can just kneel for you and not be bored.” The words were out before I thought them through.

Sir’s laughter rocked his body. “I know you like to kneel for me, pet, but this is for you. Find some books, or games, something. Anything really. Be your age for once.”

“Okay.” I had no clue what to say to that either.

“Asher will be happy to help you find some good games, I’m sure. He’ll be over this weekend.”

“Okay.”

“Oh, Dakota.” Sir shook his head. Either he was happy about my lack of words or something. Sometimes, this new Sir was a bit hard to read.

“Since the first bracelet broke, and don’t say I haven’t noticed you are not touching that wrist whenyou're on edge,” he paused long enough to pull something from his front pocket.

My eyes widened.

In his hand was a new silver chain, similar to the tracking bracelet he had given me before.

“This one doesn’t have a tracker. Although, I kind of wish it did.” He swallowed as he looked at me, but my eyes were on the piece of jewelry. “It's a way to let you know that you will always have a part of me with you.”

So, instead of saying something that only made him think I was going crazy, I pressed a kiss to his cheek before pulling back so he could put the thin chain around my wrist.

“Can I do a chore now?”

“You are one of a kind.” Once again, I wasn’t sure what the tone of voice meant. I tilted my head at Sir, kind of hoping he’d explain it to me. Instead, he simply brushed a tender kiss against my mouth. Like the times before, that simple touch chased away all the thoughts that were jammed into my brain.

I would never tire of kissing my Sir.

Chapter 38

Dakota

“So you go to this app here,” Asher explained, pressing the button that looked like a triangle in a square on the screen, “And you can find a whole bunch of games. There’s anything from block games to card games to farming. And just about anything.”

I watched Asher take the device, searching for what he thought I might like. I had no idea, except for Tetris and a card game that I played the most. Oh, and a word search too. But after a few days, they were starting not to hold my interest as well.

I also didn’t care much to read, even though Sir said there were many options to find. It just took too much work to try to keep the focus on the words and keep track of Sir’s movements and needs. It wouldn’t matter how many times he had to tell me that I didn’t need to do that. It was a part of me to know and expect every need he had, no matter what.

“You should see if Allister would get you a handheld gaming system. Scarlett got me one, andI’m obsessed with this block-mining game. You can build houses and have animals.”

“You can probably get that on that thing there,” Sir said from the kitchen.

“It’s better on the Switch,” Asher stated as if he knew there was no other option that was better. “Plus, there are games that can have more players once you hook it up to the TV.”

“I’m okay with this.” I pointed to the tablet. It was more than enough and challenging enough to figure out on a good day.

“If you say so. I’ll bring my hand held over next time.”

“Here’s snacks. And drinks. I’ll be in the office if you need me.” The last part was more for me than Asher. “I’ll leave the door open.”
