Yawning, I made my way to the kitchen where two low voices were speaking. I paused around the corner, unseen by the two men. When I still couldn’t understand what they were saying, I gave up and rounded the corner.

“Morning, sugar,” Ryker greeted me, causing Enzo to slightly turn around to look at me.

I grunted. Then, more on instinct then anything, I found myself crawling onto Ryker’s lap. He was surprised for a moment but easily wrapped his arms around me.

My head found purchase on his shoulder as a sigh escaped.

“Still not a morning person, are you?” Enzo asked, amusement lacing his voice.

I grumbled out a response, pressing myself more into Ryker’s hold. I liked his lap, and so far, he hadn’t pushed me away. Until he did, I’d always keep coming back to take whatever he’d be willing to give.

I knew Enzo would let me wrap myself around him, but he wasn’t always the cuddling type. If he was the same man I knew from before, there would be times when he wouldn’t want me holding on to him like my life depended on it. He’d grit his teeth and bear it, but that was because he loved me.

“Are you awake enough to listen to an idea we have?” Ryker’s voice rumbled against my ear.

I nodded, blinking sleepily. I could almost fall back asleep.

“Enzo mentioned wanting to visit the store to get some stuff,” he went on. “Would you like to go with us? You’re welcome to stay here, if not.”

“Don’t leave me alone.” My words came out at a near cry.

“Never,” Enzo stated. His chair was pushed back, then a moment later, he was right beside me. I melted even more into Ryker as Enzo’s hand ran through my hair. “I think you’re stuck with us.”

“For as long as you want to be,” Ryker promised.

Was it possible to fall in love with this man, too?

Clinging to Enzo, the three of us made our way into the little supermarket. One hand was clutching his in a death grip, while my other hand was wrapped around his arm.

I had forgotten how tall he was, or rather how short I was. My head came up to his shoulder. Ryker was half a head taller than that.

“I feel short.”

Enzo tried, but failed, to hide his laughter. Then, he pressed a kiss to my head. At least my nervousness about getting out of the house had been pushed to the back of my mind for a moment.

I couldn’t remember the last time I had been to a store. It was definitely before Steven got his hands on me.

“Let’s start with getting some things to make cookies,” Ryker stated, taking the reins. His look towards Enzo wasn’t as hard as the day before. Maybe the two had finally talked and come to an understanding.

“Cookies?” I squinted at his back as Ryker grabbed a cart.

“Yep. I’m not a baker, but I’m willing to bet that the two of you could make delicious ones.”

Slowly, as we made our way down nearly every aisle of the store, my body slowly relaxed. I still held onto Enzo, fearing if I let go, he’d disappear on me again.

Soon enough, the cart was full, and Ryker stopped at the candy aisle. “I need to go grab a couple more things. You two pick out your favorite and I’ll be back in a few.”

“But—”

“If you don’t want candy, pick something else.” With that, he walked off, headed to a different part of the store.

“All right,” Enzo said, pulling me down the aisle.

I had no clue where to start. I didn’t much care for sweets, anyway.

“What kind do you want?” he asked, seeming to watch me more than what was in front of him.

“Gummies, I guess?” They were the first thing my eyes landed on.
