“Anything you want, sugar.”

“I–Is Enzo gonna be okay?” he asked, shoulders falling.

“Yes. Emily and Collin know what they’re doing,” I answered as I dug out the mix from the cupboard.

“Emmie’s learned from the best.” Silas’ voice was full of pride.

Emery looked at me for help before giving him a small smile.

Emery

Like so many other times, I had no clue how much time passed. I sat on the couch, mostly lost in my mind. Silas was quiet, so it was even easier to get lost inside myself.

Ryker’s noise in the kitchen didn’t faze me, either.

I was having a war with myself. I had never once turned my back on Enzo before.

Don’t get me wrong, I loved that Enzo was here. Alive. But it felt like we were miles away instead of just feet apart now.

It was my fault.

“You’re worried.” Silas’ voice was low enough to not startle me.

“Huh?”

“Worried about your friend, right?”

I nodded.

Silas scooted closer to me but thankfully kept a good distance between us.

“He’ll be okay.”

Physically, he may be. But what about mentally?

“Emery?” I looked up at the owner of the voice. Collin stood not far from the room. “Enzo would like you to sit with him.”

Surprised, I stood.

In the bedroom, I found Enzo hadn’t moved more than an inch. Under his hurt knee, there was a towel, and Emily sat near it.

“I have to drain the fluid around his kneecap. He was bitten by a spider, and the bite grew into an infection. Antibiotics will clear it up, but if the fluid isn’t taken out, it’ll take longer to clear up.”

“Okay.”

Enzo looked at me, and it felt like hours since he’d last done so. His hazel eyes were swimming in tears, jaw set tight.

At the way he looked like his world was crashing down around him again, I caved. I could never stay angry at him.

Not after everything we’d been through.

I took a spot on the bed, where he instantly bent in an awkward way to wrap his upper body into my chest. His fear of needles went deeper than a normal person. And rightfully so.

I’d hate needles too, if I had been the one who’d been tied to a post with some nameless man sticking one into my dick for some sick pleasure.

“When I put the needle in,” Emily said softly, “you have to stay still, okay?” Enzo shivered against me at the words

I ran my hand through his hair, knowing it’d calm him down.
