“I don’t know,” I shrugged. I’d never been able to let myself want anything before. It was easier not to.
“Something food wise? A blanket? A book? There has to be one thing, pretty girl,” Zevon said.
“Pepperoni pizza with extra cheese?”
“Perfect. Too bad it’s three in the morning or I’d so order some right now,” Zevon said.
“What else do you want?” Collin asked as a door squeaked open. “Bet he’s gonna freak when he can’t find you,” he whispered.
“You two are so mean,” I said, unable to hide my small smile.
Collin put his finger up to his lips, his eyes alight with mischief.
In minutes, Dominic came jogging out of the hallway, looking at each of us before visibly relaxing when his eyes landed on me.
“Uh, hey.”
“Hey,” I said, tilting my head to see him better. “Everything okay?”
“Yep,” he said, worry wiping off his face. “What are you all doing out here, anyhow? And shouldn’t you be sleeping?” He raised a brow at me.
“Couldn’t,” I said with a shrug.
“So we’re having a little party,” Collin said. “Wanna join?”
Dominic said nothing as he took the seat between Collin and me. He pulled my feet into his lap and let out a content sigh.
“Scarlett, something else you want? I want to know three things,” Collin said.
“I want a joint,” Zevon said. “I could so use one after the shit storm this week.”
“Not happening,” Dominic huffed. “So don’t even think about it.”
“You’re no fun.”
“You made a promise.”
“Have you ever had a pet?” Collin asked.
I raised an eyebrow at him now. He had to be kidding me.
“Why not?”
“I was never allowed,” I said, putting it mildly. When I was younger, I begged so much I got on Alan’s nerves. He finally caved and got me a kitten. Then, he made me watch as he snapped its neck. I shivered.
“What kind of pet would you want, if you could have one,” Dominic asked, rubbing one foot and drawing me out of my thoughts.
“Hmmm,” I said, letting my eyes close. “A cat, I guess.”
“One last thing you want,” Collin said.
“What was the first thing?” Dominic asked.
“Pizza,” I offered.
“Is that your favorite?”
“I don’t have a favorite anything,” I said, leaning my head on the cushion. “What about you? What’s your favorite food?”
