“Ace was, but a few stitches and he’ll be fine. The girls weren’t back yet, so they went to a safe house. Everyone is accounted for.”

“Good,” Dominic said. “Get comfy, then. It’ll be a few hours.”

“Yeah, not happening,” Zevon said. I heard him take a seat on the floor by the door.

“Fine. You can suffer there.”

“I can’t be on the same bed with her, Dom. I…I can’t make her fear me more than she already does.”

“It’s not your fault,” I said, opening my eyes. Zevon’s eyes widened.

“It’s not yours, either.”

Iwrapped the towel around my body after shutting off the water. It was amazing how much a warm shower could make one feel a thousand times better. I twisted my hair up into another towel so it didn’t drip down my skin.

I was still tired, and that seemed to be an never ending battle. Thankfully, Dominic had grabbed some clothes from my room and left them on the counter before I took a shower. I had woken up a number of times during the night, mostly each time the door was opened or shut. I’d jerk awake, and every time, Dominic would shush me, pulling me closer to his body and promising it was fine. Every once in a while, I’d feel Zevon touch my back to soothe me, too. I knew he was on the other side, hardly sleeping, to make sure I was safe.

I was thankful that, when I woke up, both of them were already out of the bed. It was awkward enough waking up in Dominic’s bedroom.

Once I was dressed and my hair was brushed out, I opened the door, finding both men spread out on the bed, about a foot between the two. They were both sitting against the headboard, almost in the same position. Peyton stood against the wall, his arms crossed. He didn’t seem too happy with the arrangement.

“Sleep well?”

“Not really,” I yawned. “These two snore.”

“Do not,” Zevon said. “And I certainly didn’t get much sleep.”

“I brought you food,” Peyton said, pointing to a tray on the dresser.

“Yeah, no thanks,” I said, debating on crawling back onto the bed between the two. It was really tempting.

“You need to eat, sorella,” Peyton said, softening his voice.

“If I could keep it down, sure. But I know no med will work right now. So, let me do it my way.”

“Okay,” he said, holding up his hands. “Lunch is required for the family downstairs today. Pops said it’s time to get back to our normal Sunday lunch menu.”

“Which doesn’t include me,” Dominic said, pulling out his phone. “Have fun, kids.”

“If he’s not going, neither am I,” Zevon said. “But what I will do is go to my room.” He pushed off the bed and then made his way over to me. He whispered, “My room is right next to yours if you need anything…anything.”

“What the hell did he say?” Peyton pounced once Zevon was out of the room.

“Just told me where his room was in case I needed something,” I said, walking to the side of the bed.

“I don’t want him around you. Him either,” Peyton said, lifting his chin towards Dominic.

“Well, get used to it,” I huffed, laying down and getting comfortable.

“Make sure she joins us for lunch.”

“I’m not her babysitter!”

“She just promoted you,” Peyton huffed before storming out.

“He doesn’t like me,” Dominic laughed lightly, shaking the bed in the process. “He thinks I slept with his girlfriend.”

“Did you?”
