Chapter 26
Elijah
It was now early February, and the snow was packed in force to the sides of the roads. It was just now starting to look like the snow may be done, at least for a few days. With the snow came the frostbiting cold. The wind was the worst, so we didn’t go out much due to Lizzy being so little, and I didn’t want Dawn gettingsick.
Kelly had talked us into letting her keep our Lizzy for a night, saying we were in need of a night to ourselves, but expected us to keep her daughter the following week so she and Kaleb could spend a nightalone.
Dawn was full of nerves, which was normal for any first-time mother, to allow her child to stay somewhere without her. We both knew Kelly and Kaleb were more than capable of watching another littleone.
It had been a month now since the trial of Galvin. It was big news for days on end, since the reporters couldn’t believe that the trail was so short. Most trials last for days, sometimes up to months before a verdict comes down, but with the evidence, and with the victims stepping forward, it was a no-brainer. It was better for us all. It was a plus that the judge didn’t want to spend days hearing the same thing over andover.
I wasn’t happy when the news leaked our names just a weekago.
“Hey, turn the news on,” Kaleb said right after I answered my phone. Dawn was in the shower, and I wanted a show, but I guess that would have towait.
Turning on the TV, I saw what he was wanting me tosee.
“This information has come to us through a secret source. It has been said that the FBI of Seattle has been using an undercover police officer—possibly more than one—to bring down Galvin and his fellow men. His name is Elijah Hunter. We have been unable to locate him at this time to confirm or deny these allegations; nor have we been able to obtain any photographs of him. We have called and left messages with the Chief, Kaleb Morgan, but have not gotten a reply as of yet. We will keep you updated on this as more information becomes available,” the newscastersaid.
“That’s it?” I asked, not at all concerned. They would soon find a death certificate, leading themnowhere.
“Yeah. I’m betting it was Morgan,” Kalebsaid.
“I’m not worried, Kaleb. He can tell whoever he wants, but he doesn’t know my real last name, so he won’t be able to lead anyone to me. I already have Tom getting a few more documents in the works,” I answered. “And no one can get past my gate without my permission now, since I put that new code on the alarm. If Morgan tried to lead anyone here, Elijah Hunter isn’there.”
“No one can find you from your name, anyway. You’re not truly a Brown, either,” helaughed.
He was correct. I was adopted but chose to keep my last name, adding Hunter to the end. I was Elijah Brown-Hunter.
That was why I used Elijah Hunter for my false documentation while bringing Galvin down. Elijah Brown for workpurposes.
Deciding we’d stay in, Dawn and I went to the pool house. She was nervous about it, but that could easily be because she was wearing her two-piece swimsuit, a huge robe wrapped around her for warmth. The path to the pool house was cleared of snow, but that didn’t mean it was any warmeroutside.
Dawn wore her hair up in a high bun so it wouldn’t get wet. I carried a backpack of a few snacks and water, along with towels. I had a bounce in my step as we made it to thedoor.
When I opened the white door, the smell of chlorine and warmth hit us, and steam rolled out aroundus.
“Wow,” Dawn said, entering before me. The pool house was completely open except for the bathroom and shower area. To one side, there were a few lounge chairs against the windows that could easily be opened during thesummer.
The clean blue pool, which was only five feet deep, sat close to the chairs and was heated all year long. On the other side, there was a hot tub, steam rising fromit.
“I don’t use them often, but it is nice when I have the time to enjoy it,” I said, leading Dawn farther into theroom.
She looked around the huge room in awe. I wasn’t sure what she was thinking, but I sat the backpack of items down near thechairs.
“Come on,” I said, motioning to the pool first while she took off her whiterobe.
Underneath, I expected the swimsuit she and Kelly had ordered. I didn’t expect what she had on. It was a skimpy two piece, a dark red string bikini and hardly covered anything on her. It wouldn’t take much for her breasts to spill out. The bottoms were tied on her hips in neat littlebows.
“Where did you get that one?” I asked, looking her up and down like I was ready to eat her. I licked my lips, knowing the game she wasplaying.
“Mandy may have bought it for me,” she said, looking up through her eyelashes at me with a little smirk. “Do you like it?” sheasked.
“Very,” I said, trying to swallow and will down my erection. I almost had to wonder what had happened to my shy, sweet girl, but with her hanging out with Kelly and Mandy, and sometimes Emily, I was sure they helped my girl figure out ways to try and seduce me. “Come on,” I said, stepping into the pool, holding my hand out for her to joinme.
After a moment, she gripped my hand tightly and slowly entered the pool with me. She was surprised the water was warm, and she relaxed once it was up to the top of her breasts. They floated up, and I could see her hardenednipples.
“Isn’t so bad?” I asked with a smile as I pulled her into ahug.
