Chapter 8

Avidya

“Julia and Carlos won’t be happy when they hear,” Jonas nearly sang as we all headed back to our cars. Zachariah had his arm wrapped around my waist, keeping me tight against him. Not like I’d go anywhere, but I loved it when he got possessive.

I didn’t think I could ever be happier.

“They won’t be finding out yet,” Zachariah stated as he shot me a smile. “They’ll get over it when they do.” I could hear his voice sayin timesilently.

I couldn’t help but wonder how they would react when they found out, though.

“Eventually,” Jonas coughed. “When do you plan to let them know, then?”

“Next time we have a family dinner,” Zachariah answered. He seemed as though he’d be able to keep it quiet until then. I highly doubted the news would wait until then to be told. Somehow, Carlos would surely find out. He seemed like the type of man that never let anything pass under his nose without his permission. He just knew things, even things I could never explain.

“I’llsohave to be there,” Travis said with a bounce in his step.

“Only you would want to be a part of the family drama,” I said with an eye roll.

“What can I say? I like this family,” Travis said, shooting me a happy, amused smile.

Yeah, so did I.

“What did happen to the couple that adopted you?” I asked, my voice filled with curiosity.

“My mom is still alive,” he said slowly. “I make sure to keep in touch with her. She’s doing well considering everything that she’s learned about where I came from. I keep nothing from her.” He paused, as though thinking of how to word what he wanted to say next. “My dad died a few years back from lung cancer. He refused treatment, and ended up passing six months to the day after he found out,” he ended.

“I’m sorry,” I said, my voice low.

“We’ve moved on,” Travis said with a one shoulder shrug. It was like he hadn’t expected anything less in life.

“You two are in charge of being bouncers at the club,” Zachariah stated, breaking the thick silence that had descended on us.

“Of course,” Jonas stated, almost sounding relieved. “You two will be okay without us tonight, then?”

“I’m sure we will be,” Zachariah stated. “The club needs the extra hands tonight with it being Open Night. Normally, I’d be there myself, but my wife needs me more.”

“We got it handled,” Jonas said, squaring his shoulders.

“Perfect,” Zachariah stated, shooting me a dark look full of need and desire as we reached the car. All thoughts left me. I knew that look. “Ready to go home, mywife?”

“I’d love nothing more,” I said, my words coming out in a near whisper.

It didn’t take long at all to make it back home as Zachariah speeding the entire way. His hands were tight on the steering wheel despite his relaxed shoulders. Every now and then, he’d glance over at me, giving me his charming look. A look that was filled with so much need and desire, my own body reacted to him alone.

Why did it feel like home was so far away all of a sudden?

After helping me from the parked car inside the garage, Zachariah had me pinned against the wall as soon as the door was shut from the entrance into the house.

My back was against the wall and his firm chest pressing against my own. I hardly had time to take a breath before his mouth crushed into my own almost bruising my lips. I let him take control, opening my mouth to his as I moaned out softly. His tongue, more gentle than his body, explored my mouth, filling my desire for him tenfold.

I was unable to move as I was pinned between the wall and Zachariah. I didn’t mind one bit as he slowly pulled his lips from my own with a groan.

“I could take you right here, right now,” he trailed off, his eyes darkening with lust.

“I wouldn’t be opposed to that idea,” I panted out, my eyes fighting to stay open as my core protested in need.

“Later,” he promised with another hard kiss. “You can count on me taking you in just about every room in this house.” The words were mumbled against my lips, but I understood them as if he’d had said them loud and clear.
