God, he is so not wrong. I’m dead on my feet.
“I picked up a few frozen pizzas and threw them in your freezer, along with a few other things. There is a grocery store one block over and a restaurant across this street.”
I’m sure I sound like a broken record by now, but the only words that form are, “thank you.”
He gives me a head nod. “I’ll see you tomorrow morning.” As he is striding away, he yells over his shoulder, “and call Beckett, otherwise he will drive me nuts.”
I walk out the back door with a small laugh and a smile on my face.
I climb the wooden staircase. As I go, I watch my steps. A few of the boards are broken and the bottom one is about to give.
When I make it to the top, I raise my head and run right into a body.
“Ooof, umm, hi.”
CHAPTER3
Spencer
Oh,God, this is where I die, isn't it? I’m going to get crammed into a trunk and then hacked into a million pieces. So maybe I should have taken Jaxon up on his offer to install a security cam in the back alley.
Why is there a man with a duffel bag standing next to my door?
Oh my god! What do I do? I know zero self defense maneuvers.
Well, I know one.
If this person does not murder me, Jules will. She has been pestering me for months to take self-defense classes. I got pushed around a little, one time, and she freaks.
Crap, maybe she was right.
“Oh, hi. I didn't mean to startle you.”
I eventually glance up and meet eyes the color of bright blue sea glass. My breath hitches.
Breathe in, Breathe out, Breathe in.
Don’t have an anxiety attack now. My heart rate is speeding up and I feel a bolt of electricity jolt through me.
Willing my body to move, I finally take a step back and his hand falls from my arm. He is a few inches taller than me.Okay, maybe more than a few.He has shoulder-length, sandy blond hair. A hoodie with a leather jacket over the top and dark jeans with black boots.
He is every gay man’s bad boy wet dream.
Pull it together, Spencer!
Finally collecting my composure, I squeak out, “can I help you?”That sounded real confident there, Spence.
“I’m Finn. I’m moving into the apartment next door.”
Ahh yes, the light bulb goes off now. I’ve been so busy I completely forgot. “Jaxon mentioned he was having someone move into the apartment, but I don’t think he ever said when it would be. Hi, I’m Spencer.”
Finn was stunning. He was naturally cool looking, with his bracelets and black leather necklace. Even just standing there, he’s like James Dean kinda cool, but a bit more rugged.
I couldn’t seem to stop fidgeting. My body was always in a constant state of flight.
“Hey Spencer, Jaxon mentioned you. You're the owner of Dragonfly Books, right?”
“I am. Umm? Are you going to be working at Ink Me?”
