Finally tearing his eyes off the man he’s too shy to talk to, he says, “I’ll have a tequila sunrise?”

I look at Jules and our eyes bug out of our heads.

“What? Go big or go home, right?”

I’ll have to keep an eye on him tonight. He and tequila are not the best of friends.

When Mira walks up and eyes Jules like she is a perfectly cooked steak, I have a hard time suppressing a laugh. These two together are a sight to behold.

“Finn, I’ll help you grab the drinks,” she says, giving Jules a wink as she makes her way through the crowd to the bar.

“How are you doing, kid?” Dominic’s voice booms over the noise of the bar when he places a hand on my shoulder. “I heard there was a problem with the stairs. Are you okay?”

“What? Oh yeah,” I say, waving him off. “I just twisted my ankle. It’s already better. It’s okay, really.”

“You let us know if you need anything?”

“I will, thanks.”

When Dominic turns and goes back to playing darts with Jasper, we take our seats at the table, Jules to my left and Alex across from me.

I look up when the chair moves next to me.

Uh, oh. A not so thrilled Jaxon sits down.

As soon as he turns to me, I blurt out, “listen, thank you for fixing the stairs. I’m sorry that I waited too long. I should have fixed it a while ago.”

“Spencer, we had an agreement, remember? I would handle all the upkeep and maintenance on the back stairs and deck.” He looks at me softly, “Your mother would slap me upside the head. I promised her.”

A small smile tugs at my mouth. Yeah, she would have slapped him upside the head.

“I know, and I’m sorry. It’s just sometimes I want to know that I can do it on my own.”

“I get that, and listen, you can do it on your own, but it isn’t just about that. It’s also knowing when to ask for help when you need it. Between school and running the bookstore, I, as a business owner and a friend, know how stretched thin you must be.”

I nod my head. “You’re right.”

“Your mom was an amazing woman. She believed in the community helping each other, it’s why she started the small business meetings. Just because she is not here does not mean we stop.”

“She was big on that,” I say with a fond smile and a laugh. Hesitating for a moment, I finally take the first step of putting her dream out into the world. “Listen, I have some ideas for Dragonfly Books and I was wondering if I could get your input?”

“Of course. Let’s do lunch this week?”

“Great,” I say, then I turn around to see Finn holding a glass of red wine. Jaxon gets up. “Here, you can have your spot back.”

Jaxon winks at me as he walks away. What was that for? Then Finn hands me my drink and I understand why.

This group is a bunch of meddling bastards. His time will come, he’ll see.

CHAPTER10

Finn

Reaching the bar,I still can’t keep my eyes off of Spencer. How I did not immediately come in my pants the moment he walked through that door is a testament to my strength. A tingle ran through my body the moment we locked eyes, leaving me breathless.

You could say I have a type. Someone I can pick up easily and engulf when curled in my arms. This is the first time someone has enamored me that has more of a feminine side to him. His hair is perfectly messy, and the red that lines his eyes, matches the red showing through the lace top. God, he looks hot. I can feel his heat from all the way across the room, and I crave to get burned. According to my rapidly plumping cock, it’s a thought I like all too well.

When I offered to go to the bar to get drinks, it gave me a chance to adjust my erection and get myself under control. The current side eye from Mira just lets me know I’m not succeeding.
