All sound became a crashing white noise against my ears, and the lights continued to flash and swirl behind my closed eyes. His arms left my neck, and one hand traveled down to the small of my back to pull me closer. The other made its way up my neck and over my cheek and came to a stop as it cupped the back of my head and guided me closer and deeper into him through the connection of our mouths as well.

The kiss continued, at one moment growing in heat and fire, then the next crashing down into a soft passion, only to rocket back up in a sweat-inducing trajectory.

After a millennium, our lips parted, heavy breaths against the other’s skin as we fought for air. He traced his fingers over my cheek and across my jaw.

My eyes met his once more, foggy and heavy lidded.

“Hi.” He was breathy and quiet, but the meaning behind the syllable was clear.

My lips curved into a happy smile. I felt a prickle at the corners of my eyes. “Hello.”

We held each other’s gaze, neither looking away, neither embarrassed. I felt his thumb brush over my cheek. I stretched up once more and kissed him lightly on the lips. “I didn’t expect this.”

“Me either.” His lips curved into a contented smile. “Not like this.”

“What did you expect?”

“You know… hot boy, a little damaged, sweet, a little dirty. I expected a fun date. Not…” His eyes darted away, suddenly nervous, before returning to me. “Not this.”

“Yeah. Me either.” For the briefest of seconds, I felt a rush of panic tear through me. Was I really feeling what I thought I was feeling? Should I be doing this? Brett! “Kiss me again.”

He didn’t reply, just bent lower once more, tightened his arms again, and drew our bodies back together. The heat stayed in the background; this kiss was slow and deep. Mind numbing. Perfect.

This time, Schwint sighed and pulled back. “We should join the others. I want you to experience a real fairy party. Plus, if we stay here, I’m going to have you splayed out in the grass.”

That didn’t sound like a bad plan to me, but I nodded.

Schwint’s wings vanished as his feet touched down beside mine.

“You don’t have to hide your wings. I like them.”

He looked over at me questioningly.

“Really, I do. They’re beautiful.”

He didn’t reply, only took my hand and started walking with me toward the open expanse. As he did, his wings became visible once more but stayed folded over his back.

As we entered the outermost portion of the party, very few turned to look at us. We were two among the scores of bodies, and nothing as extravagant as many of the shifting forms. “I guess they’re probably pretty used to you bringing boys to these things.” I realized how that sounded, and I honestly didn’t mean it that way. “Not that it’s a bad thing. I just thought I’d walk in and every head would turn to stare.”

He cocked an eyebrow. “Wow, confident.” He winked at me.

I nudged him with my shoulder. “No. Not like that. You know, stranger in the midst and all that. Nobody seems to care. They’re used to guests coming is all I’m saying.”

Schwint didn’t reply for a bit, simply pulled me toward the left perimeter of the party. “I’ve never brought anyone else to a New Moon Party. At least that wasn’t a fairy.”

I tried not to gape at him. I failed. I was the first date he’d brought to this thing? I hadn’t expected that.

We walked around a couple of bodies undulating in what looked to be near orgasmic completion. Both figures appeared to be male, but I couldn’t tell. Not that it mattered what they looked like. If they could take any form, I guess they could take the form of the opposite sex as well.

I tore my eyes away from the naked, glistening skin. “I suppose they wouldn’t realize that I’m not someone they haven’t met before anyway, since fairies can look like anything.”

“No.” He shook his head. “They can tell you’re not a fairy.”

“They can?”

“Sure. Just like they can tell I’m in my real form right now. A fairy can’t fool another fairy. It might take a little effort to tell who the true form is under the guise, but they’ll know they’re not looking at the real thing.”

I took a few more steps, then paused. I felt a small jerk on my arm when Schwint didn’t realize I’d stopped. I looked around the ethereal space. Creatures continued to form and morph into other beings. It also seemed to be getting more crowded. Apparently fairies were still arriving to the party. A nimble unicorn stepped daintily from the surrounding grove, its white spiral horn at least five feet in length, its twisting beard dragging the ground. It looked like it had just stepped from the threads of a medieval tapestry.
