I checked both ways before I pulled out into traffic. “Hey. Ummm, I have news for you.”

“Oh hell, what happened?”

I smiled sadly. “I quit my job.”

There was silence at the other end of the phone.

I frowned, hoping he didn’t hang up on me. “Hello?”

“Yeah, I’m here. What happened? I know you didn’t quit for no reason. What did your boss do?”

I gave him a rundown of what happened.

“Then I called her a bitch.”

He laughed. “Damn, baby, you did all that?”

“And did. Now it’s time I looked for another job for real. You know I’ve been looking, but not as hard, so I need something asap.”

“Something will come up. If it doesn’t, you know you always have a place to stay with me. You and Pinks aggravating ass.”

I burst out laughing. “You’re going to get off my cat. She ain’t did nothing but love you.”

Ever since Nash had been in my life, he and Pinks had bonded a lot. It wasn’t always that they’d sit on the same couch, but when they did, she’d crawl into his lap. I found it cute and had several pictures of them together.

Nash chuckled. “And I love her too, but still...”

I yawned. “I’m going home to take a nap.”

“Nah, go to my house. I’ll meet you there to let you in. Take a nap there. I’m needed at the gym for the day, but we can chill when I get home.”

I had to make a U-turn since I was almost home. I didn’t live too far from the vet clinic. “Okay. I’ll meet you at your house.”

“I love you,” he whispered.

I smiled. “I love you too.”

After I hung up the phone with Nash, I shook my head again. It was a good thing I didn’t spend money like that. I had myparents’ insurance money to last me a while, but I didn’t enjoy spending it and only touched it when necessary.

My eyes fluttered open when I heard the door open and close. Nash had made it home since letting me inside his house early this morning. When I got there, he had some breakfast waiting for me from Crème Coffee Café, plus he gave me some dick. I had the whole day to myself, so I just filled out applications until one in the afternoon. I then ended up taking a nap.

The door of his bedroom opened, and I lifted my head. Nash turned on the light, causing me to close my eyes from the brightness of it.

“Wassup, sweetness?” He came and sat on the bed. “Are you hungry?”

“No.” I sat up and rubbed my eyes.

“Word. When you’re ready to eat, I’ve got you. I found this recipe on TikTok, and I wanted to try it out. It’s a chili recipe. What do you say to that?”

I beamed. “I love chili, so I wouldn’t mind trying it. How about we bake some cookies too?”

He leaned over and kissed my lips sweetly. “Yeah, we can do that too.”

I jumped up and crawled into Nash’s lap. “My nap would’ve been better if you had been with me.” I pecked his lips again, wrapping my arms around his neck.

“Don’t worry. Soon, we’ll be sleeping together every night.”

My heart nearly skipped a beat at his words. “Wait. What?”
