“Well, let this mind in,” Sebastian answered.

Kyle rolled his eyes before he backed to the door and opened it. “What?”

“We’ve got a good window for the PharmaTech site visit. We should plan to move soon.”

“When is it?” Ava asked.

“There’s a conference going on over the next three days. Their executives will be there along with most of their senior staff. We’ll have a clear window at night provided Alex can give us a little cover.”

“I should be able to do that,” Alex said, his eyes fixed on his screen. “I’m almost into their system now. I can do a digital scan for anything that you’re looking for.”

“I’m not sure they’re going to put this onto their servers. But in one of the decrypted emails, they discuss a big project soon going live. It’s heavily redacted, so I’d like to look at the onsite versions of this where we’ll gather all of the details.”

“What’s the name of the project?” Alex asked. “Surely they have digital files on it with a security protocol I can break.”

“Could you break the decryption The Board uses?” Sebastian countered.

Alex’s nose wrinkled as the insult hit him. “Given enough time–”

“We don’t have time. Can you possibly find the files and get through the security to read them? Yes, given enough time, I have no doubt you could. But we don’t have that kind of time. We need to move now.”

“All right,” Ava said with a bob of her head. “Then we move now. We do the site visit tomorrow night. And find out what they’re up to with…” She flicked her gaze to Sebastian.

“Project Reaper.”

The words sent a chill running down Alex’s spine. What was PharmaTech planning to unleash with a name like that?

CHAPTER 6

AVA

Ava checked the clip of her gun before she slid it back into her weapon, her features taut as tension built within her body. If she could just make it through this recon mission, she could breathe a little easier.

Living in constant fear of your own behavior wasn’t easy. The tension from that alone was enough to drive her crazy. But they needed to know the secrets housed within the PharmaTech headquarters, and this could be their only opportunity.

Still, she’d made certain Kyle had kept close tabs on her vitals, and she’d insisted that he accompany them inside. Not just to monitor her, but in case any of the information they came across was best deciphered by a doctor.

Ava glanced at Alex, clacking away on his keyboard as usual as they sat in the back of the van, waiting for him to clear a digital path for them.

She tucked the gun into her waistband, stood, and moved to him, her hands gently massaging his shoulders. “Making headway?”

“Yep,” he answered, sighing. “Unfortunately.”

“Unfortunately?” she asked with a chuckle.

“I really don’t like this, but I know we have to do it. So, here I am, being a team player and only objecting slightly.”

She leaned forward and kissed his cheek before she slid her arms around his shoulders, hugging him from behind. “We will be in and out before you know it.”

“I hope so.” He slid his eyes sideways toward Sebastian.

Ava shot the man a warning glance as he lips parted to speak. He clamped them shut.

Kyle rose from his seat, patting Alex’s shoulder. “Don’t worry. I’ll keep a careful eye on her and her vitals.”

“I just hate this whole thing. Somehow these people slipped this drug to you, and now you’re raiding their offices.”

“At least we have awesome eyes in the sky who won’t let us get caught.” Ava grinned at him before planting another kiss on his cheek. “And if I’m not mistaken, you’re in, right?”
