“Can I join you in the shower?”
I want to show him exactly how much I appreciate how patient and attentive he’s been.
A low sound rumbles in his throat. “Like you need to ask.”
Chapter 28
Jordan
It barely registers that Jake must be home when the front door opens and shuts in the distance. Everything I have is focused on Shelley as she kneels in front of me, water pouring down on both of us. I gather her hair and hold it in one fist. She looks up at me, droplets gathered on her eyelashes.
“Damn, Sweetheart, you look gorgeous on your knees.” My breath hitches and I hiss as she flattens her tongue and glides against my sensitive skin. When she hollows her cheeks and starts to suck, I have to brace an arm on the shower wall for balance. My eyes are transfixed as her fingers trail down her body, dipping between her thighs. “Good girl. Make yourself feel good while you have your mouth around me.”
A banging on the bathroom door startles us both. “Jordan? Are you home? Jake, is that you in the shower? Have you seen Jordan?” Mike’s voice comes from the hall. “He’s not answering my calls.”
Shelley and I both freeze at the sound of her brother’s question. Her eyes go wide for a second, but then she gets a mischievous glint in her eye and goes back to working me over.
“Uh, yeah. It’s me in here,” I call out to him, trying and failing to keep my words even. I lower my voice to whisper to Shelley, “I’m strongly rethinking my decision to let him keep his key.”
“Shelley isn’t answering her phone or the door at her apartment. Do you know where she is? She’s not with Danielle, and she doesn’t have a car. I know this sounds nuts because she just got here, but I’m getting worried she might be sneaking around with someone. What if she’s in some kind of trouble?” Miller can be kind of paranoid about protecting the people he loves.
Shelley pops off of me and cups a hand over her mouth to cover her laugh.
“It’s not funny,” I insist, still whispering. She seems to disagree. Her shoulders are shaking because she can’t stop giggling. I’ve kept things hidden from him, but I’ve never outright lied to my best friend, and I don’t want to start now. But something tells me Miller doesn’t actually want to know why his sister isn’t answering her phone.
“You’d have to ask her, man,” I call out to him. There. Not exactly a lie.
Shelley’s quiet laughing fit hits so hard I think there might be tears running down her cheeks, but it’s hard to tell in the shower. She accidentally knocks down a bottle of shampoo, and it falls into the tub with an echoing thud. “Oops.”
“Is someone in there with you?”
“Um…”
“Oh. Sorry. My bad. I’m leaving. Just let me know if you hear from her, okay? I’m getting worried.”
“I’m sure she’s fine,” I shout, pulling Shelley up from the shower floor and cupping my hand over her mouth. Her laughter is contagious and I’m two seconds away from losing it myself. “Not funny,” I repeat, lowering my voice to scold her while I press my body into hers. Her eyes dance over the top of my fingers. She licks my hand, but I hold it there.
“And for the record, I told you you’d never make it to the end of the season before breaking that stupid celibacy vow!” Mike calls before we hear the front door shut.
“That was way too close,” I say, finally letting her go.
Shelley digs her fingers into my hips, pulling me into her. “Forget him. Where were we?”
I finally let myself smile at her. “If I remember correctly, one of us was on our knees.”
Her own grin spreads further, and that sultry tone is back when she raises a hand to my shoulder and says, “Hmm. Then I guessone of usbetter get back down there.”
I don’t fight it when she presses her fingers into my skin, I just drop down and get to work.
Chapter 29
Shelley
After my brother’s little interruption, Jordan and I finish our shower. I didn’t manage to come this time, but it doesn’t matter. The way Jordan worships my body without expecting anything from it gives me a new appreciation for what it means to truly be in the moment with him.
When we’re dry and dressed again, we head down the hall to my place, since my brother doesn’t have a key to my door and Jake will be coming back to the guys’ apartment soon. This way we can guarantee there will be no more surprise interruptions. I send Mikey a quick proof of life text to get him off my back before I snuggle into bed with his best friend, both of us stripping down to our bare skin again because, whether or not we fool around anymore tonight, I still crave the feeling of Jordan’s skin against mine.
“I had a lot of fun with you tonight,” he says.
