It seemed like Aidan had a lot on his hands.“I’ll drivemyself. No worries. So is she going to be hanging around the place for a bit?Itake it you’re worried about Daisy’s safety. Is there a plan?”

“There’s always a plan and it always goes awry.I think Dawants Brian Langton to shadow Daisy for a couple of weeks,” Aidan explained.“They’re friends, and he’s married with a couple of kids so he’s pretty sureBrian won’t perv on her.Da will probably try to get her to move back home fora while, but my sister can be stubborn. We don’t know a lot about the peopleshe exposed, so we don’t know how serious it is yet.If Daisy runs true, Iwould bet the head of the cartel will try to blow us all up.”

Now some things made sense.“Brian’s on assignment anddoesn’t get back in until Monday.”

“So we’ve got Daisy watching this weekend. She’ll probablyspend most of it with Brianna at her parents’ house.Having Brianna’s dadsaround means mine won’t freak out about her safety. And I’ve got a double shiftthis weekend, so you’ll have the place to yourself.”Aidan studied him for amoment.“You going to be okay on your own?”

He would have told anyone he would love being on his own,but he wasn’t looking forward to the quiet. The quiet reminded him how alone hefelt. But then he’d felt alone even when he was surrounded by a loving family.Even when he’d known he wasn’t.“Yeah, I’ll probably hang out at the clubSaturday night, too, but otherwise I’ll be chilling at home.Leave me a list ofwhatever I need to do.”

“We’re pretty low maintenance,” Aidan replied.“Coop andTristan are always on the road, and I work constantly.I have no idea how Carysis planning this wedding.Even with help from the moms, it’s a lot.I’m lucky Iknow when to show up.”

“You’re going through with it?”Nate wasn’t sure how tobring this up, wasn’t sure he even should. It was weird to think of Carys andAidan without Tristan. They were a threesome.Always had been. He’d thoughtthey always would be.It wouldn’t be the first time they’d put off the weddingbecause of Tristan’s job.

A grim look came over his friend’s face.“I’m going throughwith it no matter what this time.I’m not letting her down again. If Tristan’swork is more important than our wife, then he’s made his choice.”

Somehow he thought there was more to the situation, but hedidn’t think he was the guy Aidan was going to talk to.“Well, I’ll be there.”

“Of course you will. You’re one of my groomsmen.”Aidan gota wistful smile on his face.“We’ll go get our tuxes fitted next week. It’ll befun.”

“You let me know and I’ll be there.”And he would be theretonight.Maybe he would even meet Daisy again. It would be fun to see how thepixie had grown up.She’d been an awkward child, all gangly and skinny, withbraces and untamable hair.

She would remind him of his childhood.Remind him of when hethought he knew what he wanted to do with his life.

Maybe a friendship with her would be good for him.Andapparently amusing since she was a ball of chaos.

Aidan glanced down at his watch.“They should be done soon.I’m going back upstairs.I bet I get to either babysit my sister or come backat five and pick her up.Either way, my father will lecture me on how it’s mysacred duty to ensure no harm befalls Saint Daisy. The man’s blinders arestrong.See you at the club tonight.”

He waved and then got back to work.

Tonight he would figure out if he could reconnect with alifestyle he’d once loved.

Or he would sit and drink in the bar.Yeah, that wasprobably how his night would go.

Chapter Three

Daisy sat in the locker room at The Hideout. It was one ofher favorite places on the planet, but tonight she felt antsy.

It had been a genuinely terrible day, and Aidan beingwilling to take her in for the night was the only reason she wasn’t locked inher parents’ house.

Come tomorrow she would have a bodyguard on her twenty-fourseven.She’d done it again. She’d upturned everyone’s lives when all she’dwanted to do was help.

Should she give in and go home? Was she causing more troublethan she was worth?

It was kind of the question that plagued her life.

“Hey, you okay?”

She looked up and Carys Taggart was already dressed in anemerald green corset and matching boy shorts. She had an elaborate mask in herhand. It wouldn’t cover up the pile of glorious auburn hair on her head.Herhair would give her away at a party like the one going on in the club thisevening. It wouldn’t matter. She only wanted to play with Aidan.

Well, Aidan and Tristan, but it looked like Carys was goingto be permanently down a Dom.

So naturally she was here checking on Daisy.“I’m fine.Iguess everyone heard.”

Carys sat down on the bench next to Daisy.“About you beinga badass and taking down a cartel?Yup.”

She should have known her future sister-in-law would haveher back.Carys was the best.“I don’t think that’s the way my da saw it.Iprobably didn’t make things easier for myself by posting a selfie. My parentsdo not understand the importance of social media.”

Carys chuckled.“I’m sure they don’t.You know if you hadn’tposted the social media pic, no one would have known where you were.Thinkabout it.Now, the parental units are not here tonight, so you’re just talkingto me.Not your brother, either. Are you okay?”
