“Ma, the master has asked me to go help on a property his goddaughter is fixing up. Do you know where my hiking bag is?” I yell while digging in the junk closet under the stairs, which used to be a toy closet, but Ma added a sunroom where she has the grandkids' toys now.
“It’s in the quad's room. I’ll pack you up some food. Where are you staying?” I give her a vague idea, as he didn’t give me those details, I step into the doorway of my youngest brother's room, and only Gus and Seb are around.
“Is my hiking bag in here? I have a job I need to pack for!” Seb, being the unofficial leader of their group, jumps up and dips into the closet, then hands me my bag as Robin stumbles into the room,
“We need to pack, guys! We’re coming with you, Jakey. To help Emmy out,” Mom appears in the doorway looking confused,
“Elise’s Ember? You said the master's goddaughter,” I shrug, I have no idea what’s happening, I never do with my youngest brothers, Hugo steps around Mom, kissing her cheek, his phone pressed to his ear,
“Yeah, Emmy, I got it. Are you sure it’s okay? Yeah, that makes sense! Yeah, good plan! See you soon, bye,” Hugo hangs up the phone and looks at Ma.
“Ember has a family, but her social worker hid it when he found out. She has a grandad, a dad, two uncles, two older half-brothers and a twin, plus she has ten mates. Miss Volks from school is her dad's Mate, and one of her uncles is the Alpha for the TripleMoon pack, which is where we will be staying.Apparently, the Master is kicking himself for not linking her to her father.” Ma has tears running down her face. I don’t remember the girl, but the quad talked a lot about her.
“The property is one Dan and Elise left her in their will, one of her Mates is an Alpha and she needs help setting up the place ready for when they turn eighteen, but none of them knows anything about landscaping other than chopping trees so she’s ‘borrowing’ some of the master’s staff to help,” he does the action for quotation marks around the word borrowing, I frown.
“Word is the master has recommended Amelia for the housekeeper position to get her away from the battleaxe.” he steps into the closet, grabbing his own stuff, all four of them packing bags. I’m just staring, mouth hanging open,
“Amelia is visiting with her mother next week to meet with Ember about the job, the idea is for it to be a brief visit as there is work happening on the house still, and then the master is sending L.S.V (lemon-sucking vamp) to check over the maintenance of his properties overseas while Amelia gets settled and have a contract with Emmy, not the master” Hugo says, Ma is watching me closely.
“Emmy said she and her Alpha mate will support your mating if it's what you both want, and you have a permanent job there if you want it, but that’s on the down-low till L.S.V is out of earshot.” Hugo goes on to explain that Ember called, telling them to come too, as it can be explained away that us five aren’t really needed on the estate, so the master could spare us, as L.S.V always looks down on us, she will believe the words of a future Luna.
Ma wipes her face, then heads off for extra supplies for the five of us. Now, it's not just me. I can’t believe this girl is using favours from Prince Liam to help Amelia, and I can finally be together. Hugo turns and raises an eyebrow at me ‘What? Oh yeah!’ I head off to my room to pack.
I’m nearly done when Pa steps in, placing some boxes on my bed,
“Pack the things you don’t want Ma and me lookingtoo closely at and seal them up, and we will pack the rest and bring it over once you have your room sorted” I do as he says and I’m kind of thankful if Ma found the letters Amelia and I have been able to swap over the years she wouldn’t try to stop herself reading them.
“I have messaged the Master, I will send a group of five down to help that are a mix of skills, from what he said the place hasn’t been touched since Dan, Liam and Nate, killed the corrupt Alpha in the 1800s” I give Pa another nod before adding one of our old books to my bag, maybe there are some rare plants on the land. As I head downstairs, I spot one of my brothers.
“Let's take two jeeps just in case and hitch one up with a trailer with some basic tools and one of the ride-on mowers, anything else we can get while we are there.” They all agree. Yes, they are still immature at nineteen years old, but when they want to do something, they give it their all, and they are loyal to a fault.
I end up with the trailer and all the bags, while those four just drive themselves, I guess it gives me a nice four-hour drive to think over what is about to happen in my life.
The main thing that is running through my mind is that Amelia and I will finally be together, no question in my mind that it’s what we both want. The only problem we have ever had is the control her mother has over her life.
CHAPTER FIFTEEN
EMBER
As per usual, the Quad rolled in like a swarm of mayhem, Seb proceeded to dibs a cabin over by the litters, while Jake, Hugo and Gus helped clear the trees for the access road.
I should probably call it a drive, as that’s what it is now, or will be. Seb and Robin started on Amelia’s and their cabin, ripping out anything not needed, so it was basically an empty shell. They picked the six-bedroom cabin so when their parents visit, they can stay there and also until Amelia is ready to seal the bond. Jake is going to stay with them, so there isn’t any extra pressure on her.
We have been getting stuff delivered to TripleMoon, and then River and Saint have been bringing stuff here with their shadows, so the solar panels for the quads, Amelia’s, Xander’s and the other guys' cabins, are all here and going to be installed soon.
Miles already has paint and some furniture on order. He’s currently talking to Jake about their cabin, the kitchen and bathrooms needing updating, like who has a brown bathtub, really?
Bas and Tim have a friend who owns an electrical and plumbing company that sends out a few guys. I don’t know if they’ve worked with Jaylen before, but he is the one currently on site, and he sets me on edge. Saint is sorting security in all the buildings, Dec, and he plans to set up a security firm when they get bored of being in the force.
Timber and a small crew are erecting the Sawmill structure today and the hydro generator is being built in a few days, all of the fallen trees from the drive and the ones around the main house were taken to their friend and they hadenough there to build the full mill and some storage areas, all the machines are coming the day after tomorrow, so once the roof is on, the solar panels fitted and the hydro generator is up and running, they will be ready to go.
Things are moving quite quickly now. The Quad sat Bas and Timber down three days after they arrived and asked if they could set up a sister company, and when they do big jobs, they will do a discount on the landscaping side. Kodi has been flitting here, there and everywhere, and they all agreed to finish our place before they build the showroom and offices.
I’m just finishing the last touches to what will be Amelia's bedroom, Jake's mom snuck in after they left and sent me photos of how she had decorated her own room, Miles did a quick shopping trip for paint as we were just going to leave cream walls and let her do it herself but cream is boring, her walls ceiling and floor were cream but she had sky blue bedding and a rug and a vase full of wildflowers so we went with it.
I try not to react as Jaylen steps in as my phone rings.
