“Great. Now give me something I can sell.”

“I will not resist you, but I won’t help you either,” I replied calmly.

Jess grew increasingly frustrated. She paced back and forth in front of the door.

“Stay out of my head, you!”

“My apologies, sweetling.”

She glared. She’d asked me not to call her that and I could tell it was getting to her. Before she could come up with a fresh idea, my ship’s sensors sounded. I recognized the sound anywhere. A ship in the royal fleet had entered perceptibility by long-range sensors.

“Jess, you need to answer immediately, or they’ll transport the entire ship to their vessel.”

“How do I answer?”

“Tap that panel on the wall.”

Jess tapped the panel.

“This is the Devoran ship,Psi-60,Kronos, we’re expecting a report.”

Jess gasped when she heard the voice.

“Kronos?”

“Kronos is occupied. He’s… he’s my captive.”

My eyes nearly popped out of my head. Was she insane? While I was bonded to her, while I had shown her mercy, there was no guarantee that my people would do the same. They were nearly guaranteed to do the opposite.

“Jess, what are you doing?” I hissed.

“I have him captive so you’d better come down here and pay my ransom!”

Jess screamed and turned around to find that two Devoran soldiers had taken her up on her offer. But seeing the alien that had me captive and the fact that I was in tact, sitting on the bed helped them calm down. The two lowered their weapons.

> I replied.

> Morpheus asked.

>

“Hey! Are you three doing that head thing? You’d better stop it!”

> Thassala asked, her frustration nipping at the skin on my arms.

>

> Morpheus insisted.

>

> Thalassa said, prickling again.
