At the same time I heard the words, I saw Jina’s expression turn to one of pure rage. “Alex, what the hell are you doing here? Let go of her!”
Jina reached to pull me away from him but backed up quickly. I knew the thing jabbed into my back was a gun.
“Jina, run,” I whispered.
“No, Jina. Stay,” Alex said with a mocking tone and moved the gun from my back so he could flash it at Jina. He was quick to tuck it back between our bodies so no one would see it. “We’re going to have a nice little talk.”
“Don’t do this,” I begged. It wasn’t hard for me to sound scared. I could tell Vie felt my distress because I could feel his worry coming back at me. If I wasn’t so busy being terrified, I’d want to think about how amazing it was the feel Vie’s emotions in my head.
Knowing Vie could feel my emotions meant he had to be on his way. All I had to do was keep Alex talking until he got here.
Hurry, Vie!
He pulled hard on my hair. “We are doing this. No one leaves me like you did. Not without punishment.”
“Do you hear how fucking insane you sound?” Jina spat even as she moved to follow us as he walked me backwards.
“You never liked me,” he said, jabbing me hard. “You’re the reason Willow broke up with me.”
“Me? Me!” she yelled at him, stomping her feet like an angry horse as she walked. “I didn’t realize I was the reason you were an abusive asshole!”
I loved Jina, but she had no sense of caution when she was angry. She was going to get me killed!
“I’m not the asshole here,” he said. We’d rounded the building now, and he was dragging us back behind a walled area used to hide the building's dumpsters. I really didn’t like where this was going.
I tried to make my voice soothing. “Hey, maybe I was too quick to judge. Let’s go have a drink and talk.”
He shook me with his grip on my hair. “It’s too late for that, bitch.”
Making him think I wanted him back didn’t work, but I needed to keep him talking. We’d be safe when Vie got here, but we had to buy him time.
“I don’t understand what I did wrong,” I whined.
“You did everything wrong,” he hissed, twisting my head so I could see his face. “You listened to her instead of me. I was your man. You should’ve wanted to do everything for me. Except you didn’t. You never tried hard enough.”
“Don’t you mean she didn’t want to be your punching bag?” Jina taunted.
I shot her a frustrated look, trying to tell her with my eyes to stop talking.
Alex moved the gun from my back to point it at Jina again. “One more word, you stupid cunt, and I’ll kill you slowly instead of being nice.”
Jina opened her mouth, focused on the gun, and shut it again with a snap. Fuck, finally she was realizing we were in real danger!
I gasped when he put the gun back where it was, digging it into my lower back. If he pulled the gun out from behind me, I’d go for it. I couldn't risk him shooting Jina.
“You don’t understand,” Alex said to Jina, then repeated the words to me. “You didn’t understand what I needed. I'm a man who needs a woman to understand me. To talk me up. To be there when I need her. It’s what women were designed for. They’re supposed to serve the man in their life, not argue with him.”
If I wasn’t already feeling sick to my stomach, his words would’ve done the trick.
I couldn’t think of anything to say, but thankfully he didn’t need me to respond.
“It felt good to fuck up your apartment,” he continued. “It felt good to piss all over your bed. I wanted it to be you. Then I burned your shop and wished you’d been inside so I could watch you and hear your screams while you died.”
Of course this bastard had wreck both places.
My emotions must’ve shown on my face because his tone turned mocking. “You didn’t realize it was me, did you? Stupid bitch. But now you know. Shooting you isn’t going to be as fun, but at least I’ll know you died thinking of me.”
Like hell I was!
