“Yeah, I do. Why?” I hastily dressed so I could come face-to-face with the wide-eyed sales assistant.
“Did I park illegally?” Maggie asked, already going for the keys. “Or block someone in? I’ll take care of it.”
“N-no, it’s not that. It…well, it appears your car was vandalized.”
Maggie and I cast twin looks of confusion at each other. What did she mean, vandalized? It took a moment for the word to sink in, but when it did, we both cursed and raced out of the store.
“Shit, Clover!” Maggie cried, seeing the state of my car.
It was trashed.
The windows were all cracked, the pink paint keyed to hell and back, the tires were slashed, and across the windshield was the wordSLUTin bright red spray paint. Holy shit. Whoever had done this was inflicting as much damage as possible.
My beautiful sparkly princess mobile wastrashed. Tears took over, and I barely heard Maggie’s voice as she called the police to report it.
“My parents are going to besomad I didn’t use my driver,” Maggie muttered.
“Your parents? What about your brother? He’s going to lock me up at the pack house and never let me leave.”
“Fuck.”
Chapter 44
Hunter
“Sir, you should check your phone.” My executive assistant, Evelyn, interrupted me mid-sentence halfway through our budget meeting. Dread instantly pooled in my stomach. She received my work texts on her computer but always waited until the end of meetings to tell me if there was some important message I needed to deal with quickly. There was rarely anything that couldn’t wait an hour or two.
“I’m sorry, one moment,” I said to my congregated team.
Avery:
Some fucker trashed Clover’s car
She was out shopping with Mags
Said they felt like someone was following them
Got them both back at the house now, but they’re both shaken up
My stomach sank with each word I absorbed. The urge to start running to the car had me stepping toward the door.
Hunter:
Is she hurt?
Avery:
Just spooked and pissed
Parker is taking Maggie home in a minute, and I’ve got Clover in her nest
How long until you and Logan get home?
I swallowed hard. I had a whole day of meetings scheduled, and Logan didn’t usually go far when I was stuck at the office. I wasn’t a rock star anymore but that didn’t mean I wasn’t still a target on occasion. Had someone found out about Clover? Had they gone after her because of me? Logan was far more pack than bodyguard at this point, but I always felt safer with him around.
Hunter:
I can send Logan now
