“Don’t let fear or guilt spoil what we could have together. Let me love you, Ames. Let me make up for the years you spent loving me in silence, especially for the last nine months, when I hurt you so deeply. I love you, and I’m aching to hear you say it back. I hope you think about it.” With one last kiss on my forehead, Reyansh finally steps back, creating distance. I remain frozen, staring at him, dazed.
“Come back to me soon, Amy. Also, finish your work and leave shortly.” He gently squishes my cheeks, flashing a charming smile powerful enough to weaken my knees.
Moments later, he turns and walks out, leaving the door closing softly behind him. I sink back into my chair, my mind replaying every word, every touch. What just happened?
I finally felt the warmth I had been craving all along, and now I want more. With his explanation and reassurance, clarity slowly settles in. The next step is obvious: I need to speak with Aditi.
I’ve waited years to be his woman.
Now that it’s within reach, I can’t let it slip away simply because I’m tangled in my own fears. It’s time I choose my life with Reyansh and clear every obstacle standing in our way.
Chapter 37
Amyra
“So you all forgave Rey and supported his love for me?” I ask as my parents inform me about Reyansh’s meeting with them. He apologized for his mistakes and sought their support to win my heart again.
“Surya and Meenal have forgiven him; they’ve always wanted you as their daughter-in-law. We’re upset about how things affected Aditi, but she seems to be handling it well. Ultimately, it’s your choice, princess. We love Reyansh and will support you if you choose him, but we’ll respect your decision if you don’t,” Dad replies.
“But Amyra, do you still love him?” Mom asks.
“Yes. My love for him hasn’t faded at all, despite trying to move on for nine months,” I say confidently.
“Then go for it, princess. Life is too short to overthink it.” Both Dad and Mom smile, filling me with gratitude for their support.
“But you should talk to Aditi before she leaves tomorrow.”
“I know, Mom. I’ve planned to meet her today. I don’t want unresolved differences, and I hope she understands my perspective.”
“She will, princess. Aditi loves you like a real sister. Don’t doubt her response. I’m sure you’ll both feel lighter after talking.”
“I hope so, Dad. Let me go and speak to her.”
I rise from the bed, and after exchanging warm glances, we leave the room, parting in different directions.
My heart pounds nervously against my chest. It’s been a month since I last spoke to her, and the lingering guilt only worsens my anxiety.
Didn’t Reyansh make it clear that Aditi never loved him and that I was never the reason behind their breakup? I need to shed these negative emotions before facing her.
Come on, Amy. It’s not that hard to talk to your sister.
I take a deep breath, walk to her room, and knock on the door, only to get no response. I knock again, but silence greets me. Curiosity stirs as I twist the doorknob, which opens easily. The room is empty.
“Where did she go?”
“It took you a long time to visit me, Di.” Her voice comes from behind. I turn to see her walking down the corridor before stopping in front of me.
“I went to the kitchen to get a glass of water.”
“We need to talk.”
“Of course. Come in.” She leads me inside, and we both settle on the couch tucked into the corner.
“Adi… I-I’m s-sorry for avoiding you all these days, especially after knowing about your breakup with Rey.”
“To be honest, I was really disappointed, Di. I expected you to be there for me to comfort and support me, but you weren’t. I felt like you didn’t care—”
“Please don’t say that,” I interrupt quickly, guilt tightening my chest. “I care about you more than you know. That’s exactly why I stayed away. I thought my presence might make it harder for you to move on.” In my distress, I had blamed myself for her pain and foolishly assumed my absence would ease her suffering, without realizing that what Aditi truly needed was my presence, not my distance.
