She grinned and started across the floor to us. “Took you long enough,” she said, jerking me into her arms.

I sucked in a shuddery breath and hugged her back, squeezing my eyes shut against the tears that threatened to turn into a full sob.

“Where have you been? What happened? Tell me everything.” I held her out at arms length to get a good look at her. She looked good. Strong. Her hair was shorter than when I last saw her, the black curls cropped closely to her skull. She was armored up in the same gold metal as me, but there was something different.

I squinted at her. Something in her eyes, some unnamed emotion danced in their depths.

“Are you going to introduce me to your friends, dearest? Or shall I have to beg?”

My eyes widened as I looked over Callie’s shoulder at the flamboyantly dressed male that had spoken. He was tall, maybe even taller than Rema, and well built. It wasn’t the pink silk shirt and purple striped pants that made me gawk at him. It wasn’t the curved sword tucked into the wide orange scarf wrapped around his waist, or the fact that he was covered in blood. No. Oh no. It was the fact thatit was fucking Anubis. The jackal-headed god from ancient Egypt draped his arm over Callie’s shoulder and flashed me a toothy smile.

My eyes widened even further when Callie smiled up at him, patting the hand that fell over her chest.

“It’s a really, really long story, but um, this is Rathal… my husband.”
