The Lords of the Circle

Devin

After meeting with Master Stephen, things became a whirlwind of activity. He insisted that one of his enforcers, Colin, join us. Additionally, he refused to allow me to give up my title. This way, all would know that I had a coven at my back for support.

Now we were on a plane flying across the ocean. I had traveled by plane before, but always commercial. This private jet was going to spoil me. The legroom and the seats were to die for. The plane even had a bedroom, which was currently occupied by Krispin and Ben. Lucky bastards, probably joining the mile-high club.

I looked at the back of the plane after hearing a laugh. Cameron and Jackson had arrived the other night. They were wolf shifters. Krispin was best friends with Cam, and whereCam went, Jackson followed. It worked out for us; Jackson was the head enforcer of their pack, giving us additional protection in traveling. The wolves got along well with Roarke's brothers. Cameron seemed to be in an animated conversation with Addison. Who, as it turned out, was a doctor, just like him.

Roarke mumbled a little, digging his face into my lap. He’d fallen asleep earlier after eating. I smiled at my beloved and ran my fingers through his silky red hair. Over the past three days, we’d gotten closer, "cementing our bond," as Roarke liked to call it. I called it a lot of sex. It was terrific being mated to him. I loved him so much, but I was also worried about the reception we would receive in just a few hours. The closer we got to Glenfinnan and meeting Roarke's parents, the more nervous I became.

"Don't worry, it will be okay," Roarke mumbled. I looked down, and he was gazing at me with sleepy eyes.

"I didn't mean to wake you with my thoughts, beloved," I said.

"It's alright. Even if my father is a dick, which is highly likely, you're the most important thing to me. Whatever happens, we are all that matters — you, me, and our sons," he said firmly.

“You’re right! Everyone else can go fuck themselves.”

Three hours later, pulling into Roarke's parents' home, I felt differently. I was freaking out. The tension in the car was thick. Roarke's brothers and Colin were quiet in the backseat. We leftthe others at Roarke's home in town. We hadn’t wanted it to seem like we were invading. Colin had refused to let us go alone. He said the master had given him the job of protecting me, and he would accomplish that.

Roarke reached for my hand, brought it up to his lips, and kissed it.

"Come on. Let's get this over with," Roarke said with a sigh.

I sighed as well as I opened the door. It was no use sitting here worrying. What will be, will be. We made our way up the path. It was a crisp April evening, and stars twinkled in the clear sky. Roarke's parents' house was made of stone, like most of the homes in the area. Glenfinnan was a rustic town showing its age and history.

Roarke opened the door and walked right in, and I followed. "Da, Father! You home?" Roarke called out.

A slight man came around the corner. He could not have stood more than five foot four, even shorter than Ben's five-ten. He had short red hair and wore a big smile.

"Roarke!" he exclaimed and rushed in for a hug.

"Da!" Roarke laughed as he picked the tiny man up in a hug. This was Roarke's dad? This little man had given birth to these four giants?I thought in shock.

Roarke smirked at me, picking up on my thoughts.

"It's about time you made it home," a deep gruff voice sounded.

I turned and saw a gigantic man with dark features. He had crimson red hair and dark emerald green eyes. While he had similar characteristics to Roarke and his brothers, his were more severe. He also had an air of strength about him; he was not one to hide his dragon power.

"Father," Roarke said stiffly and held out his hand.

"Son," Alister said, grasping his son at the forearm and pulling him in for a man hug.

"Now, tell me why you haven't called your da in five weeks and why you brought these strangers into my home."

The word strangers sounded like a curse on Roarke's father's tongue. Roarke heard the inflection of the word and straightened his spine. He clasped my hand and drew me to his side.

"I apologize for not reaching out to you, Da. I didn't mean to worry you," Roarke said sincerely, looking at the smaller man.

Then he looked at his father with a firm expression as he said, "Devin, this is my father, Alister MacNair, and my da, Owen MacNair, lords and leaders of the Glenfinnan Dragon circle."

Roarke's parents’ eyes widened at the last part of the statement, but Roarke continued on. "Father, Da, I'm pleased to introduce you to my Cardia, my heart, Devin Davis, Second of the Walden Vampire Coven."

"Your Cardia!" Owen exclaimed in excitement, and Alister growled in anger. I am sure that if he’d been in dragon form, smoke would have billowed from his mouth.

"What do you mean, your Cardia? You're promised to Lord Finnley of the Bracara circle! You will dissolve this mating immediately and do your duty to your circle!" Alister yelled. Owen turned in shock to his mate.
