Colin tugged my hand and pulled me out of my stupor. He led me across the floor past the dark walnut front desk. There was a large, dark-haired man with dark eyes that studied our movement. He inclined his head towards us, and Colin tilted his back but didn't say anything.

"Who was that?" I whispered as we entered the elevator.

Colin turned toward me. "That was my friend, Jett. He and Basil are my best friends."

"Is he a vampire, too?"

Colin nodded. "Most of the employees here are vampires. A few humans who know of the supernatural also work here."

"Humans know?"

Before Colin could answer, the doors slid open. It appeared to be a waiting room. There was a small loveseat to the side and large double doors ahead of us. I continued to look around and noticed a hallway to the left and the right.

I didn't have an opportunity to explore more when the double doors burst open, and the small landing was suddenly filled with several angry men. The power in the room radiated, and I recoiled back. I didn't want to be here. This was dangerous. Quill stepped close to my side, and Colin moved in front of me.

“There he is!” A man with raven hair and violet eyes that appeared to glow, yelled.

"Prince Gavin," Colin said with a slight bow.

"Shove the Prince Gavin crap. Where the hell were you? Where were you when your mate was dying?” He glanced at me and sneered. “Fucking a fat human?"

Another man with mocha skin stepped close to Gavin and grabbed his arm gently. Colin snarled.

"Don't you dare—"

"Enough!" A ripple of energy pulsed through the room at the shout. I wanted to fall to my knees; the strength was so great.

My heart raced in my chest. I didn't know who this blond-haired, black-eyed man was, but he was scary as fuck.

"Yes! Enough! A vampire clearly attacked one of mine. I demand restitution," Another man with long black hair and porcelain skin said. A silver glow emanated around his body. The man was ethereal.

"King Gael. We don't know that. And we definitely know it wasn't Colin. He was thousands of miles away," the black-eyed man said.

"Yeah, fucking that human rather than being with his beloved," Gavin snapped. A purple flame erupted in Gavin's palm.

Colin growled and stepped forward before unleashing a verbal assault in defense of me. His words broke the proverbial dam and the room exploded into chaos. Words and accusations flew like arrows in a heated battle, the atmosphere thick with tension and power. The very air seemed to crackle, and I felt like a tiny boat amid a stormy sea.

Gavin's purple flames spread over his body as he yelled. I looked at Colin, yelling at the mocha-skinned man with black iridescent scales protruding from his skin. The scales weren't the only surprise. A black mist appeared to swirl around the room as unnatural growls joined the cacophony of sounds.

This was all too much. I took a step back until I was in one of the hallways and out of the room. I couldn't stay here. I loved Colin, but this was insane.

With my heart pounding in my ears, I sprinted down the corridor, desperate to find an escape, to distance myself from the overwhelming storm of emotions and power.

"I'm sorry, Daren. The master ordered no one is allowed to see him." I heard a woman say. I stopped dead in my tracks and waited. I glanced around, looking for an escape. The voice had come from an open door.

"I'm not just anyone, doc. I was dating him," the man said.

"I'm sorry, Daren," the woman replied.

"I'm going to see the master. I'll be back."

Scoffing and incoherent grumbles filled the hall. I stepped back. I didn't want to be seen. I jerked around, hearing a noise behind me. I was trapped, and I turned to a closed door and tried the handle, out of time. Fuck, locked! I thought. I hurried to the other side of the hall and attempted the opposite entry. Thankfully, it opened with ease.

I quickly entered and shut the door behind me. The room was dark aside from a faint glow by a bed. I crept forward. It appeared empty, aside from a bed and a small table. It was very bare bones for such a fancy hotel.

I moved toward the bed and collapsed on the edge before exhaling a large breath. I didn't know what I'd gotten into. I cradled my head in my hands. Tears threatened, the weight of the day's revelations pressing down on me.What the hell am I going to do?I thought.

"Who are you?”
