“Do you still live there?” I asked quietly.

“No,mon chou. I lived there for a long time, but I moved to the United States several years ago, starting in LA, and I’m slowly moving east. My primary residence is in Colorado. I’m here in Chicago visiting my cousin.” Colin replied.

“So, you’re just visiting,” I said, defeated.

Colin moved quickly and pulled me into his arms. “I will not leave you. I meant what I said. We were made for each other.”

I wanted to believe him, and deep down, if I examined my feelings, I did, but I was scared to accept it.

“I promise. We’ll be together forever,” Colin whispered.

I could see the earnestness shining in his eyes. I leaned up and kissed him. I’d trust him. I’d trust the man I only knew for one afternoon. I’d trust him with my heart for as long as I had him.

Chapter Six

Zander

“Zander?Whereareyou?”I heard Zin call.

I groaned. I didn’t want to deal with anyone, especially Zin. My life was hell. I was in hell ever since I walked out on my spark, and he walked out on me. The moment I turned from him, I knew it was a mistake, but by the time Daren guided me to the car and I flashed back, Colin was gone. All I knew about him was that his name was Colin and that he was a vampire.

“There you are. Why are you sitting in your room with no light? What happened?” Zin asked as he barged into my room.

He snapped his finger, and the brightness filled the room. While the Fae didn’t have electricity, we would use our magic to make tiny orbs of light that brightened the room like a human lightbulb.

I didn’t want to deal with Zin and his antics. I wanted to wallow. “Leave me alone, Zin. I’m not in the mood.”

Zin gasped and hurried to my side before grabbing my shoulders and studying me.

“Your light, it’s so dim. What happened, Zander? Whose ass do I need to kick?” He asked in a panic.

I knew why he was scared. Every fae had a light of life in them. To witches and paranormals, this light was a person's aura. A fae's aura could be many different colors. The color of the light didn't matter. It was the brightness you had to examine. The light was either bright or dark. If you allowed evil to corrupt your light, the light would dim and darken. This would transform the nature of the fae into something vile, turning them into Unseelie.

“You know what, fuck this,” Zin said, not allowing me to reply. He stepped back and shouted each of my best friends’ names. “Gavin, Alver, Dain, Fafner!”

Instantly, flashes of light enveloped my room, and I shielded my eyes. My head pounded at the brightness.

“Zin, why’d you call—” Gavin started but stopped mid-sentence.

I opened my eyes, and Gavin, my prince, stared at me. His violet eyes blazed as he bore into me. I looked away but was met with the same intense looks from my other friends and brother.

“What happened?” Gavin demanded.

I shook my head. “Nothing.”

“Bull shit! Your light has darkened. Something had to have happened. Did Daren do something? Do I need to kick his ass? Tell me, brother,” Zin snapped.

“No, Daren didn’t do anything. I haven’t seen him for the past week. Not that he stopped calling for me,” I said, muttering the last part.

Ever since I flashed out of the car, he’d been calling for me nonstop. I couldn’t be with him now that I knew my spark. I knew I should’ve told him, but I was in a hurry to catch Colin; I just left.

“Is that what has you sad? Are you pining for him? Oh, Fate. Was he your mate?” Alever said softly.

Alever was one of my closest friends, and he was the most sensitive. He and his mates, Fafner and Dain, had just met the fourth member of their pairing. They were all so cute together. I opened my mouth to respond, but Gavin beat me to it.

“Daren’s not his spark.”

I turned to Gavin in surprise. “How do you know?”
