“We’re done, right?”

“Mhm, but you should let me get your butt cheeks the next time. It’s some hair there I can—”

“Bitch, if you don’t leave me the hell alone! I’ll smack some removal cream between there and rub that shit off in five minutes. I’m good.” Kennedy scrambled off the bed to grab her panties and jeans while adding, “I didn’t mean to ruffle your feathers with what I said.”

“It’s cool. I already know it didn’t come from you, so it is what it is. If Savvy feels like that, she should’ve said something to me, especially since she’s the main one who makes it like she doesn’t talk about anyone.”

“Savvy didn’t tell me that. Your butt buddy did.”

Nubia looked confused but then spit out a laugh after it registered who Kennedy meant. Her head tossed as she tore off the disposable bed protector sheet to apply a new one for her next customer. Of all the people who ran their mouths about her, Lexi should’ve been the last bitch to do so with all the dirt she had on that girl.

“What’d she say?”

Kennedy tugged up her jeans and relayed, “That you and Savvy were real close at one point, since you were the first one she met, but y’all kind of fell off after you got into a fight with Shabu’s ex-girlfriend that you never liked and basically told everyone you wished Los was him.”

“That is not what the fuck I said!”

“I’m just telling you what she said to me. You pretty much said you were jealous of his girl because she had the relationship you wanted and that you wish Los was more like Shabu. Then, after that, it came out that you made him take you to get an abortion and nobody but y’all knew. If that was my nigga, I’d be looking at you funny, too, boo.”

“Because the way y’all put it sounds worse than it is,” she retorted, running it back in her head before cringing. “It does sound bad, though.”

“Exactly! If that was Los beating up Savvy’s exes and taking her to get abortions, or complaining how he wished you were more like her—”

Nubia raised her palm to cut Kennedy short. “I get it, hoe. In my defense, when I said it, it came from a place of pain. I would’ve said the same shit about Titan and Michi, or Pierre if him and Treasure were together back then. He was treating Lexi like shit, so I didn’t have anything to be jealous of with them.”

“Oop, not you throwing shots. So, you’re mad?”

“Very much pissed off because Lexi is literally in my old shoes. Everything with P and Tres, it’s he ain’t do this for me, or he didn’t treat me like that. The only difference is that Los wasn’t with another girl, so I saw comparisons in good relationships around me. I was bitter, and I could admit that, but I never wanted Shabu. As far as that damn list, I only put him at two ‘cause I didn’t want Los having a fit if I put Pierre there, and it still backfired.”

Kennedy gaped as she stuffed her feet into her shoes. “So, you think Pierre looks good?” she instigated, making Nubia laugh.

“Girl, P was always cute to me, but he got fine as hell when he went to jail and got his weight up. Then, his bad boy persona, and the tattoos. I ain’t even mad at Treasure for busting it open for a real nigga. But while we’re on the subject, didn’t Lexi have your nigga at her number one?”

“Oh, baby, I peeped, and I already told Pierre that she wants to fuck his cousin,” she admitted, and Nubia keeled over in laughter. “I ain’t lying! She’s been asking me since she found out I fucked Relic if it’s good, and I pay that ass dust every time. I don’t put my business in that chat for a reason, love.”

“Lexi is messy as hell, just like her baby daddy, but I don’t think she’d try Relic now that she knows you fuck with him.”

Kennedy hummed and swiped her purse off the cute accent chair below a neon wall light that read, all hail to the V.She and Lexi had grown tight, but she was never one to believe that being a friend made her exempt from getting backstabbed. At the end of the day; Kennedy didn’t put it past her.

“How much do I owe you?” she asked. Nubia strolled to her suite door, opening it as she sniggered.

“Don’t think I ain’t notice how you didn’t agree about Lexi, but it’s paid for. Yourmansent it to me this morning, so you must’ve told him that you were coming.”

“I did. Had to give his ass some incentive to hurry the hell home, so I can get some of the dick you think I get on the regular. Relic doesn’t sit the fuck down, girl.”

“You ain’t gotta tell me, ‘cause Los is right behind his ass. Like, why are y’all joined at the fucking hips again all of a sudden. I hate them together. They turn into little ass boys, bickering and competing with each other ‘bout who got this or did that better. Either that, or they’re in cahoots, doing some fuck boy shit. They get on my nerves.”

Kennedy laughed as they strutted out of the suite and then the main door onto the sidewalk. She couldn’t agree with Nubia more.

The sun beaming in a prelude to the summer nearing made her visor a hand above her eyes before she squinted, surveying her surroundings in the busy shopping plaza. A small smile graced her face after she spotted Rocco’s burly stature lumbering out of his truck. She’d been skeptical of whether him and Lue, another security guard she’d hired, would stick it out, but they had proven her wrong. Rocco was secretly her favorite because he kept quiet, did his job, and brought them lunch most times he was scheduled to cover their shops.

“Looks like we don’t have to order food today,” she said, watching him dip in his truck to reappear with bags in his hands like she assumed.

“I know. He asked when I saw him earlier today what we wanted. I almost blurted his ass, but since I’m keeping it cute, I told him fried fish platters. I made sure to tell him double hush puppies and no slaw for you.”

“Oh, don’t try to gloss over the wanting him for lunch part! I’m convinced what you really want is for Los to kill you, Nu. Why are you trying to play so close to home?”

“I wasn’t trying to play nowhere near here! It ain’t my fault Relic brought that fine ass nigga right to my doorstep like rush delivery. Hell, in my opinion, Los should be mad at his folks.”
