“If you think I can do it. It’s my first time.”

“You can’t do anything wrong. We’re commenting on the game as we play it. That’s all.”

Barion didn’t look entirely convinced, so Jon decided to jump right in. He put his plate away, got comfortable with his Aukey KM G6 gaming keyboard, and started the game when he saw Barion was ready to go. “Okay, we’re live in three, two, one, go.” He activated the cameras and the microphones, keeping their faces well hidden while allowing glimpses into their surroundings—nothing much, just enough to keep people wondering who and where they were—and, of course, fully highlighting the screens.

“Welcome, friends and fellow gamers, this is PLM with another live stream and today I have a guest, Big B, who will help me play the first levels of Eden’s Doom, a game you’ve surely all heard about. It’ll release in two weeks and expectations in the community are high. Let’s see what we’ve got.”

Jon glanced at the live stream of comments in the lower right side of his screen, seeing that people were already getting into gear, asking who Big B was and telling each other to post about the stream. Clicks were increasing by the second, the number of viewers leaping from only twenty to over four hundred within minutes, then turning into a steady rise Jon knew could go up to five-digit numbers depending on how quickly word got around. It was a great start.

“Upon starting the game, I can already say I like the soundtrack. The opening music is majestic and promising, tickling interest in what’s to come. Big B, your thoughts?”

For a moment Barion seemed to be frozen. Then he took a deep breath and started talking. “Hi, everybody, this is Big B. I’m so happy to be here today and I’m asking you to bear with me as I find my footing. Sitting next to PLM is such an honor!”

I’m jealous.

You’re right, but I’m sure you’ll rock.

Start playing and we’ll see.

Welcome, Big B.

The comments were mostly positive and more fixated on the game than on Barion, which was good. The demon relaxed even more and started talking about the set-up of the game.

“Like PLM said, I dig the music. It’s captivating and a promising start. The menu looks easy enough to handle, everything’s pretty clear-cut, no complicated loops to jump through.”

“First, we have to choose our character.” Jon clicked the icon—a flaming door—to get into the Hall of Angels and Demons. “Nice graphics, not as realistic as some others we’ve seen lately but decent.”

“Yeah. Let’s see who we’re going to play. Any suggestions?” Barion was already including the viewers like a pro. The clicks were now at twenty-thousand and still increasing. Not bad for a morning, though it wasn’t morning everywhere his subscribers sat in front of their PCs.

Play an angel.

Yeah, the big one with the black wings.

No, take the one with the broadsword.

I think they should be demons for the first round.

How about the green one that looks a bit like the Hulk?

The comments were getting heated, and Jon knew he had to put an end to it quickly if he didn’t want things to escalate. Gamers could be an excitable bunch. And the way Barion was eyeing the demonic characters, Jon knew they had to choose angels for the first round.

“I’ll take the angel with the black wings, Muorte. Death, I guess. Big B?”

“The one with the broadsword looks good. Michaele. One thing’s for sure… They weren’t overly inventive when it comes to names. Though that’s perhaps good as well because that way there’s already associations to help the players get into the characters.”

True.

I like it.

I think it’s boring.

Is borrowing from a certain religion-culture offensive?

No, I don’t think so.

Could be.

On and on it went while Barion and Jon got the basic weapons and armor for their characters.
