“How are you feeling?”
She asked me and I couldn’t help but want to cry again. No, I shake my head, I won’t go through this not again like how I did with Maxwell.
“Truthfully, I don’t know how I’m feeling. I know I should hate him. I know I should be cursing his name but-”
I can’t bring myself to finish the sentence. I look to Elizabeth for guidance, and she smiles lightly at me and places a hand on mine.
“If that's how you feel then go for it. But don’t let him off that hook so easily. He loves you. I can see it in his eyes, in the way he treats you.”
She tells me in a soft tone, she’s about to say something else but we hear the doorbell ring.
“Huh guess Mare got done quicker than she thought.”
We laugh and both head downstairs. Elizabeth opens the door.
“Hello, Sweetheart, is Lillian here?”
That voice sounded familiar; I looked into the doorway and saw Mr. Malith standing there.
“H-hello sir,”
I say, trying not to come off intimidated by his presence.
“Lilly sweety can we talk?”
I look at Elizabeth and nod, she gestures at him to come in and we walk to the parlor.
“If you wouldn’t mind, I would like to speak to her alone please.”
Elizabeth looks at me and I see her grimace.
“Actually, sir I would like her to stay here.”
I told him and saw her relax a bit. He scoffs but simply nods.
“Alright.”
We sit there for a moment when he finally says something.
“I hear you’ve stolen my son's heart.”
I look up at him with a painful expression.
“It would appear so, but truthfully now I can’t accept him.”
“Oh, and why is that?”
He cocks his head to the side.
“Because I know everything.”
I tell him spitting venom into my words, everything that's happened, everything that I feel is this man's fault.
“I know you want me and Maxwell dead, but for the life of me I can’t understand why. I have never even met you.”
I see him begin to grin and it makes me feel uneasy, like a villain about to reveal their trump card.
“Oh sweetheart, don’t you know who you are?”
