Clothes might be an overstatement. I wouldn’t call a sparkly G-string clothes.
My eyes dart to her chest.
And then all of a sudden I’m remembering her naked body from last night. Her breasts, in particular. All I want to do is feel the round shape of them again. Her nipple hardened the second I went to lick it. To feel that sensation all over again, I’d ironically pay millions of dollars.
But I don’t think I’d make it out alive if we went there again with her.
“Vex.”
I’m jostled from my thoughts by Skipper clapping in my face.
That’s when I realize I’ve been staring at Carmen’s beautiful breasts all this time.
Carter breaks away from us and produces something.
Is that a check?
I narrow my eyes to get a look at the number written on the dotted line. It’s definitely the same amount he wrote on the blackboard last night.
“For you,” he says, handing the slip over to Carmen like the numberdoesn’thave six zeroes written at the end.
I swoop over there in a heartbeat, snatching the slip of paper.
Carmen shoots me a look. “We had a deal.”
“Yes, and now we have another.”
She looks me up and down. “I can tellyouwere an only child.”
I move on from that wild and also correct assumption, and make my point. “We give you this money if you promise toneverspeak about this again.”
She studies me, brows slowly migrating up her face.
Why is she finding this funny?
“Oh my god,” she chuckles. “You guys really think you’re the shit. But don’t worry, I don’t kiss and tell.”
Skipper intervenes, his tone more level than mine. “If youdokiss and tell, things could get bad for us.”
Carmen scoffs. “Don’t worry. YourSons of Anarchysecret is safe with me.” The smile fades. “But if it wasn’t, what could happen?”
Since the other two are too pussy to say it, I speak up. “Murder.”
Carmen takes half a step back.
“He’s joking,” Carter says. “We would never kill you.”
“No, of course,” Carmen says. “But others?”
Yes,I think to myself. That’s what normally happens when people open their mouths.
Everything falls silent for a beat until Carter steps forward and steals the check back. “Here.” He places it in Carmen’s hand. “Make sure you cash the check at your earliest convenience. If there are any questions, you can say Carter Trescott wrote it for you.”
“But Carter Trescottdidwrite it for me.”
“I know.” Carter steps aside to grab his helmet and then starts to usher Carmen out. “Here, I’ll give you a ride home.”
“No, thank you. I can get home just fine.”
