Rylan holds me as we stand back and watch my new staff handle the rush of the crowd.
“I can’t believe it. We did it.”
“Yeah, we did, sugar. Just a little money always helps grease the wheels.” He chuckles.
It wasn’t a little money. It was a substantial amount. But I don’t regret it at all. I used some of the money I inherited from my father to get the buck rolling and buy the property. We also own a couple of other buildings on the lot, and I’ve been thinking of opening a co-op for local vendors. Harley wants to open a bookstore. I’m fine with helping my friends. I want the money to go to good instead of evil.
We are finally safe, and I can look to the future. My biker saved me and keeps me safe. I know if he needed to, he’d kill for me, and it doesn’t bother me in the least. It turns me on that my man loves me that much.
We’ve been discussing the fact that we both want to wait another year before we try to have a baby. I love that he’s okay with that. I want my business to be established better and Oly to be a bit older.
“What?” I hear Icarus shout. He hands Oly to Rylan and turns his back on us. “Evie is in the hospital. You told me she was safe, that you couldn’t take her from the home yet. I warned you what would happen.” He hangs up. “I have to go,” he says to Rylan.
“Keep us posted, brother,” Rylan says.
I nod. “If you need anything, Icarus, let us know,” I add.
“I will.”
I see the pain wash over him as he rushes out of the building.
“Is Evie his sister?” I ask, worried.
“Yeah.” Rylan leans in and kisses my forehead. “Their parents aren’t the best, and he’s been trying to get Evie to come live with him for a while now.”
“Shoot. Maybe we should head into town too.”
“Nope. He’ll call if he needs us.”
