"You don't need to repay me, Erica. It's my duty as your mate to be there for you, to protect and care for you. Even if you decide not to complete our bond, I'll still be here for you. Always." The sincerity in his words warmed my heart, and I couldn't help but feel a surge of gratitude toward him. This man, this powerful Alpha heir, was willing to put his own desires aside just to ensure my safety and happiness.
"Erica, you are my everything," Liam whispered, his voice full of raw emotion. "I already love you more than anything in this world." My breath caught in my throat as I processed his confession. He loved me, truly and deeply, despite all the pain and turmoil we'd experienced together. The enormity of his feelings left me reeling, unsure of how to respond.
"Thank you, Liam," was all I could manage, my voice barely above a whisper. A part of me wanted to say the words back to him, to let him know that I could feel the stirrings of love growing within me as well. But I hesitated, still uncertain of the depth of my own feelings and the consequences they could have on our bond.
"Thank you for everything," I repeated, reaching out to take his hand in mine. The warmth of his skin against mine was a balm to my bruised soul, a reminder that there was still hope for us, for the powerful connection that had brought us together against all odds.
The weight of Liam's words echoed in my mind as I struggled to make sense of the whirlwind of emotions surging through me. Love? Could I truly love him? My heart raced at the mere thought, yet I couldn't deny the magnetic pull that drew me to him, a force far greater than simple attraction.
"Hey," I said tentatively, my voice shaking with uncertainty. "I have an idea." Liam looked at me with those warm brown eyes that seemed to see straight into my soul.
"Why don't we...go on a date? A real one – planned and everything." For a moment, his expression was unreadable, as if weighing the sincerity of my proposal. Then, a slow smile spread across his face, lighting up his features like the sun emerging from behind a cloud.
"I'd love that, Erica," he replied with genuine enthusiasm, squeezing my hand gently. "I promise it'll be the best damn date you've ever had." My heart swelled with gratitude as I studied the man before me, trying to reconcile the tender, caring Alpha heir with the arrogant, pig-headed wolf who had initially stormed into my life. Had our tumultuous past clouded my judgement, causing me to overlook the kind, devoted mate that he had the potential to become?
"Thank you," I murmured softly, my eyes brimming with unshed tears. It wasn't just for the promise of a perfect date – it was for the way he held my hand, the way he saved me from my darkest memories, and the way he gave me hope when all seemed lost.
"Erica," he whispered, leaning closer until his breath caressed my cheek, sending shivers down my spine. "I will do whatever it takes to make you happy. You deserve nothing less."
Chapter 32
Erica
Thesundippedlowin the sky as anticipation tightened in my chest. It was the day of my date with Liam, and I couldn't stop the nervous energy from coursing through me. I paced around my room, clothes strewn across every surface, none of them were right for a mysterious outing that Liam had planned.
"Come on, Erica," Gen encouraged, picking up a black dress and holding it against me. "This one is perfect." I shook my head, feeling the weight of my light red hair swishing across my shoulders.
“Too formal.” I glanced over at Kaitlyn who was sitting on my bed, “Did he give you any hints about what we're doing?” Kaitlyn shook her head.
“Not a word,” she said, “And I asked a lot.” Frankie smirked, her purple-tipped black hair falling over her eyes as she leaned against the wall.
"Well, it's not every day an Alpha heir is so keen on someone like us. Maybe he's taking you to a secret werewolf ball?"
"Very funny," I retorted, rolling my green eyes at her. Kaitlyn, who'd been quietly observing the chaos, finally spoke up.
"Erica, I think it's time you tell them the truth." My heart skipped a beat, and I hesitated. Kaitlyn was the only one who knew about the mate bond between Liam and me. But seeing the expectant gazes of my friends, I took a deep breath and revealed our secret.
"Liam and I are fated mates. That's why I joined the pack, but I didn't want to complete the bond until I knew for sure." The room erupted with excited squeals and supportive hugs. Gen looked at me with shining eyes.
"That means you'll be our new Luna!" My stomach twisted into knots at the thought, and I could feel the pressure settling on my shoulders.
"Oh Goddess, yeah, I guess so." My voice trembled, betraying my nerves.
"Hey, don't worry about that now," Verity said, her pale grey eyes softening. "Tonight is just about you and Liam getting to know each other better."
"Right," I nodded, taking a deep breath to calm my racing heart. Together, we sifted through the mess of clothes, and I finally settled on an outfit that I didn’t totally hate. I stood in front of the mirror, giving myself one last look-over. I had chosen black skinny jeans and a purple off-the-shoulder top that hugged my curves just right. A nervous excitement bubbled inside me as I ran a hand through my light red hair, taming any stray strands.
"Erica, you look amazing," Gen reassured me with a smile.
"Thanks," I murmured, trying to quiet the doubts that nagged at me.
A knock on the door interrupted my thoughts. My heart leapt into my throat as Gen opened it, revealing Liam standing there like a vision. He was dressed in smart casual attire, his black jeans clinging to his muscular legs, and a tightly fitted black top that accentuated his broad shoulders and chiselled chest.
"Hey," he greeted us, a warm smile spreading across his face. His dark brown eyes met mine, and for a moment, time seemed to slow down. The air around us crackled with electricity, our fated bond pulling at my very core.
"Hi," I breathed, mesmerised by his ruggedly handsome features. The room felt suddenly too warm, and I could feel my cheeks flushing under his gaze.
"Erica, you look amazing," Liam said, echoing Gen's words from earlier. His voice sent shivers down my spine, and my stomach fluttered with anticipation. "I'm so happy we're finally getting this date."
