"Likewise! Welcome to the pack offices. You're actually one of the first people here today, so you'll have some time to settle in before things get busy."

"Thanks," I said, grateful for the small mercy. As I glanced around the room, I couldn't help but wonder what challenges awaited me in this new environment – and whether I'd truly be able to rise to the occasion.

"Let me give you a quick tour," Lucy said, gesturing for me to follow her. She walked around the office with an air of authority, explaining the layout and daily schedule as I trailed behind, trying to absorb everything she was saying.

"Over there is the conference room," she pointed out, "where we hold our weekly staff meetings. And down that hallway are the private offices for upper management." I took in the sleek, modern design of the space, glass partitions, ergonomic chairs, and state-of-the-art computers adorning each desk. It was impressive, no doubt, but it only served to fuel my sense of being an imposter in this world.

"Any questions so far?" Lucy asked, turning to face me.

"Uh, no, I think I'm good," I replied, hoping that my expression didn't betray the whirlwind of emotions swirling inside me.

"Great," she smiled, clearly oblivious to my internal turmoil. "Now, let's get you settled in."

Lucy led me to a desk near the centre of the room, where she picked up a brown envelope with my name scrawled across the front. Handing it to me, she explained,

"This contains your employment contract, as well as your passwords, logins, and company bank card."

"Bank card?" I echoed, eyebrows raised in surprise.

"Yep," Lucy replied casually. "All company directors have access to the financials. It's part of your role here."

"Directors?" My heart skipped a beat, and I could feel the anxiety bubbling up within me.

I couldn't help but gape in horror as Lucy pointed out the part of the contract that named me a company director in training. The words seemed to leap off the page, taunting me with their implications. My chest tightened, and I suddenly felt like I was suffocating under the weight of my new title. I mean, Director, what in the actual fuck, I had been in the pack a week. This felt like yet another play to mess with my head.

"Come on," Lucy said, unfazed by my reaction. "Let me show you your office." I followed her, still clutching the envelope and feeling like an imposter.

The office was impeccably modern, with sleek lines and minimalist decor. It looked like a space designed for someone far more important than me.

"Here we are," Lucy announced, gesturing toward a glass-walled office with a stunning view of the grounds. My name was already on a gleaming silver plaque next to the door. It added to the sense of unreality, making me feel like I'd walked into someone else's life.

"Wow," I breathed, barely able to process the fact that this was all mine.

"Pretty nice, huh?" Lucy grinned. "You'll get used to it soon enough. Now, if you need anything, just give me a shout. Otherwise, good luck settling in!"

"Thanks," I mumbled, still reeling from the shock of it all as Lucy walked away.

I hesitated outside the office, feeling the weight of expectation bearing down on me. My stomach churned with anxiety, but I forced myself to step through the door and take in my surroundings. As my eyes swept over the polished surfaces and state-of-the-art technology, I felt a sudden presence behind me, and my heart skipped a beat.

Turning around, I found myself face to face with Liam, who was dressed in a stunning tailored black suit. The fabric clung to his perfectly sculpted body, accentuating the broadness of his shoulders and the defined curve of his biceps. The suit was cut in such a way that it highlighted his narrow waist and muscular thighs, leaving no doubt about the power that lay beneath the elegant exterior. As my eyes traced the lines of his body, I became acutely aware of how hot he looked. It was as if the suit had been designed specifically to showcase his rugged handsomeness and raw masculinity. My cheeks burned with embarrassment when I realised I'd been caught staring. Liam's eyes sparkled with amusement as he caught my lingering gaze.

"You know, it's considered rude to stare," he teased, his voice smooth and warm like rich chocolate. My cheeks flushed crimson, and I stammered, trying to find the right words.

"I, uh... I wasn't staring. I was just admiring your suit," I mumbled, feeling my embarrassment grow by the second.

"Uh-huh," Liam replied, clearly not buying my flimsy excuse. "Well, in that case, consider yourself lucky. I usually reserve this level of stunning attire for special occasions." His grin widened, making me all too aware of how close we were standing.

"Right," I said, forcing a laugh to diffuse the tension building between us. My heart raced, pounding in my chest like a trapped bird desperate to escape. This wasn't good; I couldn't afford to let him get under my skin like this. I cleared my throat and decided to change the subject.

"So, what brings you to the office? Are you here to keep an eye on me?" I asked, trying to inject some cynicism into my tone. Liam shook his head, his expression turning serious. "No, Erica. I'm here because I work in the business too. And I'm looking forward to working very closely with you." His words sent a shiver down my spine, but I refused to let my emotions show. Instead, I focused on the practicalities.

"What exactly will we be working on together?" I inquired, raising an eyebrow sceptically.

"You'll see soon enough," Liam replied cryptically. "Just trust me when I say that our collaboration will benefit both the pack and our businesses." I wanted to believe him, but my natural distrust of Alphas made that difficult. Still, I couldn't deny the allure of working alongside someone as captivating as Liam. Maybe, just maybe, this would turn out to be the opportunity I'd been waiting for, if I could keep my guard up and resist his undeniable charm. Or maybe it would just be another big clusterfuck and I would fail miserably.

"Fine," I sighed, trying to sound nonchalant. "I guess we'll see how this goes."

"Trust me, baby," Liam said, his voice low and sincere. "You won't regret it." I rolled my eyes at his pet name. I had given up telling him to stop using it.
