That was a question best left unanswered.

She turned and crossed the room toward Hamish, who was already taking his shoes off beside the last mat. “Hey, Hamish.”

He shot to his feet and started wringing his hands in front of him. “Callie. Hi. I-I hope it’s okay I’m here. I didn’t—”

“I know you didn’t. And you’re welcome to be here.”

“Okay. G-good. I…” He frowned before swaying slightly on his feet.

She touched his arm. “Hey. Are you okay?”

“Yeah. I just suddenly don’t feel very good.”

Was it stress-related? She looked at him closer, noticing his face was a bit pale and there were small beads of sweat on his brow. “If you’re not feeling well, you don’t have to—”

“No. I’m okay.” He shook his head. “I’m okay. I want to be here.”

A part of her wanted to insist that he sit this class out. She had a duty to care for her clients. But he might think she was trying to send him away because of what had happened. “Okay. But you let me know if you feel any worse, all right?”

He nodded.

She released his arm and turned to see Lock watching them closely. Jesus, not the most calming environment for yoga. She grabbed another mat and set it beside Hamish’s, making sure Lock wasn’t too close. The last thing she wanted was a physical altercation.

She moved to her own mat in front of the class. “Welcome, everyone. Thank you for joining us today. I—”

She stopped when Hamish swayed on his feet a second time.

Nope. He wasn’t okay. “Hamish, I think—”

He dropped to the floor.

There was a collective gasp around the room. She ran to him, but Lock got there first.

“He’s not breathing,” Lock rushed out. “Call nine-one-one!”

CHAPTER 25

Callie’s gaze shifted from her lap to the hospital hallway.

It was busy. And the noise of people moving and talking was loud. Aspen’s body heat penetrated her side. Her friend didn’t need to be here…hell, shedidn’t either…but she wanted to know that Hamish would be okay. And when he was, she wanted to know what had happened to him.

Her nails bit into her thigh, her feet itching to get up and ask someone for information. It would be pointless. She wasn’t family, so they wouldn’t tell her anything. Exactly why Eastern was on his way. Well, one of the reasons.

Her gaze lifted to Lock. He was pacing and he looked nervous. Probably because he’d thought the stalker was Hamish, and if it wasn’t, that left them with no suspects.

“You okay, Cal?”

She turned to look at Aspen. “I’m worried about Hamish.”

“He’s going to be all right,” Aspen said quietly.

“You don’t know that. He stopped breathing.” If another person died because of their connection to her…

No. Hamish wasn’t going to die. He’d be fine.

“Yes, he did stop breathing. But now he’s here, in the best hands.” She tightened her fingers around Callie’s arm. “Thank God he was in that class, and we were able to get him help.”

Trust Aspen to see the positive. And she was kind of right. Itwaslucky that he’d been in her class. If he’d been anywhere else, he might not have gotten any help at all.
