He growled as he found her lips and kissed her. It was so fucking perfect.Shewas so fucking perfect.

Once his thrusts slowed and their heaving chests became the only movement in the room, they both lay there, Eastern bracketing her body with his, and it almost felt like nothing could ever touch this moment.

He looked down, studying her hooded eyes, her swollen red lips. “You’re so beautiful, Sadie.”

The slow smile that crossed her lips was fucking glorious. “Says the man I’ve never been able to take my eyes off of.”

Slowly, he slipped out of her, then dropped to the side and tugged her against him. He’d thought being inside her was the best it could get. But this, holding her while she pressed into him, her entire naked body sprawled across his, was pretty damn close.

CHAPTER 13

Noises pricked Sadie’s sleep. Quiet voices that sounded like they came from somewhere far away.

Whowasthat? Even though she lived in an apartment building, it was always quiet. Her neighbors barely made a sound.

She rolled to her belly, only to frown at the scent of the sheets. Notherscent or the scent of her bedroom. This scent was masculine, reminding her of—

Her eyes popped open, immediately spotting Eastern’s dark sheets beneath her. Her heart hammered as she rolled onto her back once again and sat up. Dark tones, closed navy-blue curtains…Eastern’s room.

Suddenly, everything from the previous night came back, hitting her so hard in the chest she almost couldn’t breathe.

She’d had sex with Eastern Walker. Avery’s father.

A million different emotions rolled through her system. Shock. Uncertainty. And maybe a bit of breathlessness. Was that an emotion?

Last night had been… God, she couldn’t even describe it.

Eastern’s touch had sent her spiraling into another world. The second he’d put his hands on her, all she’d wanted wasmore. Even after they’d fallen asleep together, she’d been awoken a few times by the feel of his lips on her neck. The warmth of his stomach against her back.

She closed her eyes on a frown.

How had they gone from him apologizing every time he touched her to sleeping together? Would he apologize for last night?

Pain punched through her belly at that thought, right as those hushed voices sounded again. Even though they were too quiet to understand what was being said, she knew who they belonged to…Avery and Eastern.

Crap. Avery. What would she say when she saw her here? She was eight. She’d know what Sadie and her father had done, right? Or maybe not. Maybe Eastern had already fabricated a story about Sadie sleeping over. Please, Lord, say he’d made up a story, because Averycould notknow about their night together, not while Sadie didn’t know what it meant for the future.

At the clattering sound of a pot, she shoved the sheets off her legs and all but fell out of bed. Clothes. She needed clothes and to make herself look semi-presentable. Was that possible?

She scanned the floor for her panties, but they weren’t there. That’s when she saw her clothes from yesterday folded on the dresser, panties on top.

Heat crept into her cheeks at the thought of Eastern picking them up and folding them so neatly.

She rushed toward the pile, the twinge of tenderness between her thighs once again reminding her of the previous evening. Yeah, like she needed another reminder.

As she dressed, nerves tingled her spine at the prospect of seeing Eastern this morning.

It would be fine. They were both adults. Adults had sex all the time. Okay, shedidn’t have sex all the time, and certainly notwith someone she wasn’t dating, but it was common for some people, right?

Once her clothes were straightened, she moved into the bathroom, grimacing at the sight of her flushed cheeks and messy hair. Good God, even an eight-year-old could look at her and know exactly what she’d done the night before.

Quickly, she ran her fingers through her hair, trying like hell to untangle the knots and smooth it out. Ten minutes later and she looked kind of okay, which was probably as good as she was going to get.

She walked toward the bedroom door, her belly doing nervous rolls. The door creaked as she opened it.

Calm, Sadie. Just remain calm.

She found them in the kitchen, Avery sitting at the island and Eastern standing by the stove, flipping bacon. Avery’s eyes lit up when they fell on Sadie, and she jumped off her stool and ran across the room. Sadie barely caught herself from falling backward as the little girl hugged her.
