She glanced down to see a protruding nail in the floorboard. Abignail.

She grabbed the top and twisted. It didn’t move. But that didn’t stop her. She kept pulling and twisting.

Even when her fingers began to ache. Even when beads of blood slipped from the tips.

She needed a weapon, because there was no way she was letting this asshole keep her here without a fight.

Cody could barely keep still. His blood was rushing violently in his veins, and his skin felt tight enough to rip right off his bones.

She was gone. And he had no idea how to get her back.

The car had barely stopped in front of the sheriff’s station when he was out and moving. Liam followed closely behind. Nylah was staying back at the bar to take care of the place with Barry. He couldn’t think about anything but Harper right now.

He stepped inside and went straight into Eastern’s office. His brother looked up from behind the desk.

“You find anything?” Cody asked before he’d even reached the desk.

“I know who took her.”

Cody’s feet ground to a halt. He was pretty sure he knew too, but if his brother had evidence… “How?”

“After the fire in the alley, especially considering it followed the attack on Harper, I made the decision to put surveillance cameras back there.” He turned his laptop screen and hit a button on the keypad.

At first, the alley behind the bar was still and quiet. They could see Tommy sleeping beside the dumpster, his food bowl not far away. Then a car parked down at the far end, just in view of the frame.

Cody leaned toward the screen. When a man climbed out of the car with a bag over his shoulder, it wasn’t until he was halfway down the alley that Cody’s suspicions were proven correct—Rodney Rain, Harper’s father.

Fucking asshole!

The older man stopped outside the window to the kitchen. Eastern sped up the playback and they watched as he used tools to break the lock and gain entry.

Cody growled when the man exited the building through the door not long after, dragging a limp Harper with him. The asshole threw the white cloth into the dumpster before skimming her body with his hands. He found her phone and threw that into the dumpster as well, then swung Harper over his shoulder.

“I’m gonna kill him,” Cody growled under his breath. “Tear him apart with my bare hands.”

The door to the station opened, and Kayden stormed into the office, rage on his face. “You find her yet?”

“No,” Eastern answered. “But we know it was Rodney Rain who took her.”

Cody scrubbed his fingers through his hair. “We’ve already looked into the guy. We don’t know where he is.”

“What are his circumstances?” Liam asked. “Any other family?”

“A wife and son who live in Hamilton, Alabama. He put his wife in the hospital about a week ago.”

Liam’s eyes narrowed. “Okay. Maybe she knows something and, because he’s hurt her, she’ll talk.”

He doubted it, but he’d try anything. He lifted Harper’s phone and searched through her contacts for her mother, then hit her name. He was sure the call would go to voicemail when she finally picked up.

“Harper?” The woman’s voice was raspy, like she’d just woken up.

“My name’s Cody. I’m Harper’s partner.”

There was a short pause before she spoke again. “What do you want?”

“Your husband kidnapped Harper, and I need to know if you have any information that could be useful to help us find them.”

“He wouldn’t—”
