He then lowered his lips and pressed them against mine. At the same time, he gripped my ass, picking me up. I immediately wrapped my legs around his waist. “Nah, not yet, but you can definitely get some of this dick.”

“I thought you had a migraine. And didn’t you just have me make this omelet? You better ea?—”

My sentence was interrupted as he carried me past the omelet, the kitchen, and the living room.

“Nah we good, that motherfucker was salty too, bae. I got something else in mind I wanna eat though.”

I laughed. “And your head?”

“It’s cool. Not as bad when we were at the bowling alley.” He spoke quickly, moving into my bedroom. To my surprise he didn’t stop there, but instead took us to the bathroom. He sat me on the counter and went into the shower room.

“You skipped my omelet to take a fucking shower, Reminisce?”

“Nah. I skipped it ’cause I didn’t feel like having hypertension. Don’t get mad at me ’bout that. At least I told you the truth.” I could hear the water in the other room, but instead of the shower it was the sound of the faucet filling the tub.

“Fuck you, Reminisce.”

“You ‘bout to.” He walked out of the bathroom holding his phone in his hands with his unbuckled belt and jeans sagging low on his waist. “We’re going out to Rennix’s house tomorrow. Indiri is in town and wants to have dinner with everybody. It’s at Rennix’s house and on my life, I’m grabbing my baby, ’cause they got me fucked up.”

I laughed. He had been going on and on about his siblings kidnapping Romance all day and he didn’t like it one bit. Jade was supposed to have returned her to him, but Rennix took her from him and was now demanding a couple days with her. “She’ll be home bargaining for extra snacks before you know it.”

He laughed, then typed something into his phone. “True.” When he finished typing, he set his phone face up on the counter next to me. Then he stepped between my legs, his hands finding themselves on the waistband of my trackpants.

“You really fuck with me, Rim?”

I nodded, dropping my arms on his shoulders. “The longest way possible.”

“Good. Now lift up for me.”

Doing as I was asked, I helped him help me out of my pants.

Chapter

Eleven

Reminisce

I woke up this morning and wanted to see my child. FaceTimes weren’t shit when I was used to seeing her standing a few feet from me. She had been away from me for days and that bothered me because I had literally gone from not needing to see a soul every single day to needing to see certain people every single fucking day. My child and my woman were at the top of that fucking list, no matter the moment or time of day. It was funny because with my child I understood my attachment immediately, but with Karim I questioned at first. After all that I had been through, hell yeah I was skeptical, but in the shortest amount of time she became what I knew I needed but feared opening up to after all that Pynk mess. After dealing with a human like Pynk, it was easy to cut shit like love off. The last thing I felt like doing was getting hurt again. Karim wasn’t Pynk though.

“Why are you up?” Her lips found my chest, then she lifted her head and our eyes connected.

“Thinking.”

“Good or bad things?” She laid her head back on my chest. Knowing Karim, she was listening to my heart. One night shetold me it was soothing, so anytime she laid her head on my chest, I assumed she was doing that.

“Neither, just random things about life.”

“Oh, okay.” She moved her head a little more before I felt her drifting back asleep.

“Do I make you happy, Rim?”

“Yes, you do. You make me feel like life would be impossible without you. You got me in the afterlife, Reminisce, as long as you don’t make me shoot you before.”

When I didn’t respond, she raised her head, chin nearly digging into my chest. “What, you don’t have a response for that?”

“’Cause it ain’t. What’s understood don’t need to be explained.

She couldn’t hide the smile that surfaced, not even if she tried. “So what? We’re up at four in the morning professing toxic life afters?”
