“I’m coming.” I already knew that. Her pussy walls always tighten before she orgasms. I squeeze her breast harder, and she yelps.

“Together.” I empty inside of her.

Chapter 46

Eden

“I called for this emergency meeting days ago,” Cori says with a huff. “Eden’s been too busy with her man, and I’m only having this conversation once.”

Cori looks around my apartment, then opens the door and sticks her head out. “Making sure your annoying ass sister isn’t lurking around.”

I roll my eyes at the mention of my sister, who has sent me about a dozen texts this week warning me about being with Rip and that when it ends in disaster, she’ll be here to laugh at my pain because I’ve brought it on myself.

“No one is here,” I say. “Get on with it. I’m dying to know what’s so important.”

Cori blew up our phones last night, demanding that we come here to talk in private.

“This goes nowhere, do you hear me? What I say here stays here.” She looks around and glares at Selene, who sighs.

“Oh, get over it,” Selene says.

“I’ve been following him,” Cori whispers.

“Who?” I ask, totally confused.

“That man with the hypnotizing eyes who owns that mongrel that almost ate me the other day.”

“Why?” Selene is just as shocked as I am.

“Think about it. He’s Rip’s friend. He washes dishes in Ms. Hazel’s restaurant, but we know next to nothing about him. Everyone knows everyone in this town,” Cori says. “I don’t trust him. I think he’s into whatever Rip’s into.” She eyes me when she mentions Rip’s name. “Do you know anything?”

“No.” I raise both hands and shake my head. “The only thing the man has ever asked of me is that I don’t ask him about his work, so I don’t. I respect that boundary, and you should, too, Cori.”

“He ain’t my man. He can’t set a boundary with me,” she argues back.

I throw up my hands. “I don’t understand why you’re doing this. What’s the point?”

“I’m with Eden on this,” Selene adds. “And I don’t think this man lives in Shadow Cove. Why do you care about who he is?”

“To know. We will be the only three to know who really runs this town.”

“So, what have you learned so far?” I try not to roll my eyes at my question.

“I know where he lives. I followed him home. You’re right, Selene. He lives over in Widow’s Peak in a one-level ranch. Very modest, but how can he afford that washing dishes in a diner?” Cori raises both eyebrows while she waits for me to answer.

“There could be a million reasons,” I say. “Maybe he has another job. Maybe he has a pension. Maybe an inheritance. Or, get this … maybe it’s none of our damn business.”

“His dog is gonna eat you,” Selene says with a firm nod of her head. “And what if he is into some shit and figures out you’re following him?”

“Girl, I’m a P.I., I know what I’m doing. I’ve followed him three times, and he has no clue.”

“Then maybe that means he’s not into anything. If he were, he’d be paranoid of people following him. He’d figure it out right away, and you’d be in deep shit. Let it go.” I know Cori, and I know she won’t let anything go until she’s ready.

“He’s not expecting me to follow him, and I know what I’m doing. Trust me. There’s something about him,” she warns us.

“Like those hypnotizing eyes that had you talking?” Selene says.

“Oh, please. I was trying to fool him. So far, all I know for sure is that he loves that monster he calls a pet. I wish I could have the pound take that mongrel away.”
