“Good morning, Dr. King. Dr. Kennedy.”

“Good morning, Owen. How have you been?”

“Very well,” Dr. Kennedy.” Owen smiled at me. “I’m happy that the two of you took more time off. Did you enjoy it? Did you go away?”

I nodded while chewing another bite of the cinnamon roll. I really needed to set an alarm so I could wake up a little earlier. I wasn’t willing to give up morning sex with Maxwell, but I really needed more time to eat. I was hungry, and not eating wasn’t good for me or the baby.

“We did,” Maxwell said. He glanced at me and winked. “I took Camden to an island off of Greece for half of the trip and then a completely secluded one in the middle of the Pacific Ocean for the second half.”

I nodded. “I loved both, but the secluded one was more enjoyable. I can’t wait to go back.”

Owen looked between me and Maxwell. “Really? A completely secluded island? Just the two of you?” Owen sighed. “Must be nice.”

“Does Jun not take you on vacations?”

“Not to islands that are that private.” Owen shook his head. “I suppose it’s impossible since we’re both panda shifters.” Owen shrugged. “Anyway, we have a somewhat slow day today. Master Ambrosius is coming in at nine, which isn’t too far off. There is…” Owen looked up at the ceiling. “Chase. He’s coming in at eleven, and then Jennings this afternoon. He’s coming in for suppressors. At least that’s what I remember. I’ll have to look at the schedule.”

“Thank you, Owen,” Maxwell said. “That sounds like a normal day for us. If you’re in the mood for a pastry or muffin, I’ve put the boxes in the break room.”

“I don’t mind if I do. I only had a pair of eggs and some rice for breakfast this morning. I need to get to the store, but I know that won’t happen before they close.”

“Feel free to take off once our afternoon appointments are over,” Maxwell said as he and Owen walked out of the doorway and into the break room. I could still hear them, but I really wanted another pastry. Now that I’d started, I was actually quite hungry. I grabbed a chocolate Bavarian cream one and had it half gone by the time Maxwell returned.

“I think I’m in trouble,” I told him after swallowing the bite I’d been chewing.

“Why is that?”

“Because I’m really hungry. As in, these donuts aren’t going to cut it.”

Maxwell nodded as he crossed the room. When he was standing next to where I was sitting, he leaned down and gaveme a quick kiss. Then he took a bite of my donut. “Eat your breakfast sandwiches and fruit and yogurt as well, my love. You’re growing a baby.”

I smelled them just then and moaned when I spotted the breakfast that was now on my desk. There was a pair of sausage, egg, and cheese sandwiches on biscuits that I loved. I knew Maxwell had seen them in my memories. Along with them was a bowl of mixed fruit and vanilla yogurt with granola on it. Yep, he was a keeper.

“Thank you,” I called out as my mate left the office again.

“You’re welcome,” Maxwell said after poking his head back into the office. I closed my eyes at the first bite and tried not to snarf them down too fast. But I was hungry, and my stomach was suddenly letting me know it was time to up my breakfast routine. Lucky for me, I had a warlock for a mate.

Chapter 13

Maxwell

“Are you certain you’re all right with this?” I asked Camden. I was about to call my fathers to let them know that not only was I mated, but we were expecting our first child.

“Yes. I’m not dreading talking to or even meeting your fathers. Not the way I am about my own parents.”

I held out my arm, hoping Camden would come to me. He quickly moved closer on the sofa, and once he was under my arm, I touched the screen with my free hand and called my father. It was evening there; at least, it should be if they were home in Ibiza.

The call was answered on the second ring, which was normal for Father. “Maxwell, it’s good to hear from you.”

“Hello, Father. Is Papochka there too?”

“Yes, where else would he be?”

“I’m not sure. At the market? In the shower? Sleeping? I never know where the two of you are.”

“We’re home. We just came back from a lovely trip to Norway. Lukyan wants to travel somewhere where there is snow later this year. His other half would like to play in it for a bit.”

“That sounds nice. There’s still some snow in spots here on Treasure Ridge. A lot of it has melted though.”
