“You won’t?—”
“I can’t be what you need,” she growls, interrupting me.
I cup her face. “All you need to be is you. I’ll take care of the rest.”
She huffs, pushing me back, and gets to her feet. I follow. “I don’t know why you and Bill keep feeding me these bullshit lines. I’m not going to fall for them.”
I’m not sure what she means by that.
Eve squares her shoulders, and her eyes narrow on me, and I know what’s coming before she even opens her mouth. She’s going to challenge me, andI’m going to have to hurt my girl to prove my point. “I won’t marry you, Kashton.”
“The deal is done, Eve.”
She shakes her head. “No?—”
“I already got confirmation from your daddy.” She flinches at the way I refer to Bill being her father.
“You had no right,” she grinds out.
“To love you?” I laugh.
“To take my life.”
“I’m giving you one.” Does she really think that killing and working for the Lords is all she’s good for?
She storms off toward her room and slams the bathroom door shut. I enter the bedroom and lean against her dresser, waiting patiently. I knew she’d be upset. Push back. I’m prepared to do what must be done to keep my angry angel. Even if that means pissing her off.
The door swings open and she stands there with a syringe in her hand. “What’s your plan, Eve? Knock me out?”
She doesn’t answer.
“Then what? Run?”
Again, no answer, but the way her eyes darken tells me all I need to know. “How about this?” I push off the dresser. “You stick me, you’re free.” Her pretty green eyes look skeptical. Why would I let her go after I’ve fought so hard to keep her? “But if I stick you, you’re mine.”
She snorts.
“I’m serious, Everett.”
She stiffens when I use her full name.
“No more back and forth. No more running.” I walk up to her, and her eyes widen when they find mine. “When I win, and you wake up from your nap”—her eyes narrow at that—“you’re mine. For good this time.”
She sucks in a shaky breath, and I watch her loosen the grip on the syringe that she holds in the air. No way in hell am I letting her knock me out. She’ll run. Have Bill hide her. And I just can’t allow that. I’m not going to waste another six years of my life without her.
I reach out and run my knuckles over her racing pulse, and she lowers the syringe to her side. She has this inner battle. Eve doesn’t want to give into what she wants. She prefers to be forced. I’ll take her option away.
Leaning into her ear, I whisper, “You’re going to make the perfect whore.”
She slams her hand in my chest, shoving me back. “Fuck you, Kash.” Lifting her other arm, she moves to poke me in the neck, but I said what I did on purpose. I want to piss her off. I stop the movement with my hand tightening around her wrist, and she drops the syringe with a scream.
I kick her legs out from underneath her, taking her to the floor, and straddle her hips, shoving her arms down to her sides to pin them as well. Shebucks and screams while I reach over her, and she arches her back, seeing that I’m grabbing the syringe. I remove the lid with my teeth.
She gasps. “Kash?—”
“A deal is a deal, Eve.” I grip her cheeks to turn her face away from me and stick her in the neck.
Her body goes limp under mine. Her eyes soften and her breathing evens out. “Good girl.” I push her wild hair from her pretty face. I didn’t give her the full syringe like she planned on doing to me. My plan isn’t to knock her out, just make her groggy.
