“No, but I know a few good divorce ones.” I smiled weakly and he returned it, but let out a huge sigh. He was going through something huge, and I hadn’t been there for him, “Look, seriously, I know we aren’t… well, we aren’t anything anymore.” My voice cracked, and I swallowed. “But I’m always here for you, Morgan. For anything, going with you to the solicitor’s office, filling out paperwork, anything, okay? I still care about you.” I looked down.

“I still love you, too,” he replied, his voice low.

My heart thumped in my chest. “So, if I can be there for you, to help or just offer emotional support, please let me know.” I reached out and squeezed his arm.

“I will need help; I’m drowning in paperwork and phone calls. Thanks.”

“As soon as I’m home, I will help with anything and everything. And you can always text me, anytime. I’m going away to the villa for a week. Here’s the spare key, just let yourself in and lock up after you.” I unhooked a key off my keyring and handed it to him.

“Can I ask who you’re going with?” His voice had gone lower in volume and his eyes looked sad. He pocketed the key.

“Lauren, Betty, and your mum.” I smiled. “A nice, girly break.”

“Sounds like fun.” He had brightened up a little.

“Shit, I hope so. I need it after this…” I was going to say last couple of months but suddenly felt awkward.

“Yeah, I know how you feel.” He gave me a sad smile.

“Hey, maybe you and Baz could use it for his stag party?”

“Yeah?” His face lit up.

“Yeah, of course. Just don’t trash my villa.”

“We would never.” He grinned at me. It felt good to be talking and smiling with him again. “Baz said you both had a goodchatlast night?” He gave me that sweet smile again and his eyes twinkled.

“Yeah? He did have a few things to say. He’s a good friend to you.”

“He is, but I’m more interested in what you said to him.” He took a step closer to me and licked his lips.

“I’ll bet you are.” I smiled back, before we could say anything else my phone started to ring. It was Betty, I pressed the button to silence the ringtone. “I have to go, gotta pack and get my passport ready.” I gave him an excited smile.

“Yeah, okay. Have fun, look after my mother and be safe, please?” he said.

“I will, I promise. Just sun, sea and?—”

“Sex?” he finished, looking down.

“No, Morgan, no sex. I haven’t looked at another man since you and I’m not interested in starting now. There’s nobody else. It’s always been just you.” My voice got lower, and the sentence went on until the end when it was barely above a whisper.

“Fuck this,” he said and stalked towards me.

He took me in his arms and kissed me fully on the lips, using his tongue to open my lips. He pressed his body against mine and used his arms around my waist to pull my hips into his. I knew this wasn’t good, not when we had just started talking again, but I didn’t want to think. Kissing him felt right, like he was meant for me. He put his hands under my arse and lifted me up, walking backwards and using the wall to take my weight as his hands explored under my shirt, never breaking the kiss. My hands were in his hair as I gave the rest of me to him.

“Fuck, baby. I’ve missed you.” He thrust against me.

“Morgan, fuck, I need you so bad.” I panted as his mouth found his way to my neck and sucked it hard.

My phone started ringing again and too quickly for my liking, he broke off the kiss. Gentle hands lowered me to the floor. My chest heaved, and my eyes searched his.

“Well, I should get back to work.” He turned and started placing more shelving up.

“Morgan,” I said, my voice just above a whisper.

“Don’t worry. I’ll be here when you get back,” he replied and put the music back on his phone.

Guess that was the end of the conversation, then. What the fuck was that?I walked away on shaky legs, my finger resting on my swollen lips.
