“I guess I need to have another shower.” I laughed, tying up my bathrobe.
“Sorry.” He blushed.
“It was worth it.” My skin was flushed, my body still tingling all over.
I’d made an appointment with a mobile hairdresser and beautician. I was taking a well-earned break from the club and Morgan was out with the boys at their local. So, me and the girls were going out in a different town.
“What time are you finishing work tonight?” I asked him.
“About six I think.”
“The car is coming for me around five. Can you ask Jon to lock up the gate before you go?”
“Yeah, no problem. Will I see you Sunday?” He took a step toward me and pulled me into him again. My body reacted and I instantly melted into his chest, loving the feel of his arms around me.
“Yeah, I’d like that.” I pressed further into him.
“Maybe we can go to the beach at the weekend? We could take Charlie?” he asked.
Fuck, a beach day was like a date day, right? And with his child? I stiffened and his hold on me loosened, and his shoulders dropped.
“Or not. We can just game or something.” He stepped back and opened the box that held the roast dinner I had ordered for him.
“Yeah, maybe the beach. See what the weather’s like. I’ll just get in the shower.” I darted out of the kitchen.
See what the weather is like?I fumed at myself. It was summertime, the weather was meant to be good for weeks. Why couldn’t I just say yes and give in to him? I liked him, but I still had the walls up.
He had gone back to work when I got out of the shower. I had my hair and makeup done then got dressed in a long black skirt, white ruffle blouse and open toed, black heels. I looked in my full-length mirror and liked what I saw.
I went out back to see Morgan again before I left. He was bent over sawing wood when I exited the doors. I sucked in a quick breath, pausing my steps to watch him work. His arse was tight, and the muscles in his arms bulged as he worked the hand saw. He stopped, took off his t-shirt, and used it to wipe at his face. All he needed was a bottle of water to pour over his head and he would look like a TV advert.
“Hey.” He saw me watching him and looked me up and down.
“Hey, I’m just about to leave. Thank you both for this week. I’m so excited for it to be finished.”
“You look beautiful,” Morgan said, throwing down his t-shirt and coming towards me.
“Thank you. That’s sweet of you to say.” I blushed.
I wasn’t sure what to say to him in front of Nolan. We both stared awkwardly at each other for a few moments, until Morgan gave Nolan a look and he ambled further down the build.
“Don’t forget friends with benefits, but only with me, okay? No other men get you.” His hands stroked at my upper arms.
“I’ve told you; I don’t want anyone else.” I leaned in close so Nolan wouldn’t overhear.
“But you also don’t want me, not fully,” he replied.
It was a little too loud for my liking. Morgan shook his head a little. He had a frown on his face and his lips were slightly turned downward.
“Morg, we’ve been over this, I…” I was feeling frustrated; I reached out for his hand.
My feelings for him were so complicated. I wanted to be with him, but there was still that ball of fear deep down in me, the devil on my shoulder saying things wouldn’t work out and not only would we both be hurt, but that I would lose him, and his family, too. But if I kept him at arm’s length any longer, would I lose him anyway? My mind went in circles.
“Fuck, I know, I’m sorry. You just look so fucking good, and I guess I’m just feeling a little self-conscious and very jealous. Go have fun with the girls, okay?” He looked low in mood and walked away to start hammering at something.
I knew I needed to do something. “Morgan?”
“Yeah?” He stopped hammering and looked up at me. His mouth was set in a hard line and his eyes were duller than they had been moments ago.
