My steps faltered. Just thinking about the kiss we shared on the sofa sent waves of need through my body. I turned back to him and stepped closer, so I didn’t have to shout over the music.
Placing my hands on his chest and got up onto tiptoes to reach his ear. “I do like you, Morgan. I like you a lot, that’s why I kissed you back, but I’m not ready for a relationship.” I looked into his eyes.
Morgan grabbed my wrist and used his body to walk me back into the wall, pinning one arm by my side, his other hand on my waist. I found my hand resting on his shoulder—his very well defined, muscly shoulder.Stop it,I scolded myself. I could have fought him at any time, told him no, and pushed him away, but I liked thetake chargeMorgan I was seeing.
Morgan dipped his head low; I felt his hot breath on my neck causing shivers to run up my spine. “Who said anything about a relationship? I just needed to know that you like me too. You want a bad boy? Then get back in your office now, and I’ll fuck you over your desk.”
I whimpered; I couldn’t help it. To hear the normally kind, quiet Morgan speaking to me like that was a major turn on. He bent his head slightly, lips brushing my earlobe before moving back to look into my eyes. I involuntarily licked my lips, his gaze dropping to my mouth for a second before moving back to my eyes.
Morgan loosened his grip on my wrist and stepped closer, so his body was pressed against mine, and kissed me softly. His lips caught my upper one and sucked on it lightly whilst his eyes searched mine for permission.
My panties were about melted at this point and my will was wavering. It had been a while since I’d had sex, and the hormones were taking over. Before I had a chance to think it through, he kissed me again, harder this time, moving his hands around my waist and swirling his tongue with mine. Our moans lost in the music from the club.
“Hey.” I gently pushed him back. “Can we take this slow?” I was seconds away from taking him into my office and letting him do whatever he wanted to me.
Morgan sagged against me and let out a huge sigh. “Okay, whatever you want.”
I smiled at him. “Let’s get back to the table.”
Morgan’s friends had moved to sit with my girlfriends, and they seemed to be having a great time. I ignored the questioning looks from the girls and suggestive comments from the boys and slid into the booth next to Morgan. We didn’t get any more alone time, but we didn’t leave each other’s side for the rest of the night.
In the car on the way home the girls begged me for details. “There’s nothing to tell, honestly. I explained again why I didn’t think it would be a good idea and we both agreed that we’re better off as friends.”
“Uh huh.” Lauren smirked at Betty, then both looked at me grinning.
“What?”
“Well, you did look a little flustered when you got back to the table.” Lauren grinned and raised her eyebrows.
“He kissed me,” I admitted, unable to keep the grin off my face.
“Just a kiss?” Betty asked, disbelieving.
“Yep, just one, very hot kiss. That man can kiss.” I sighed, looking out the window and thinking back to his lips on mine. My lips tingled at the memory; my hand rose to play with the teardrop charm on the silver necklace I wore.
“That’s really all that happened?” Lauren pushed.
“Yep. We talked, kissed, I said again it wouldn’t work between us, and we came back to the table.” I nodded.
“Well, whatever you said didn’t work. He couldn’t keep his eyes off you all night.” Betty smiled.
CHAPTER 9
MORGAN
Last night was good. When Andie kissed me back, I thought I had her, but then she pushed me away. I agreed to let it go for the time being, but I wasn’t going to give up on her that easily. I wouldn’t get to see her until the following day as I had Charlie.
I had finished building Charlie’s carpark and accessories, so I spent the day in the best way possible—playing with my son and spending time with my family. Charlie was growing so quickly, and it killed me that I couldn’t be with him every day, thinking of all the things I was missing out on.
I took him for a walk to the local park and put him on the baby swing. His giggles brought me out of my low mood. I’d bought a bag of pellets from the gift shop and fed the ducks, Charlie in my arms giggling and pointing at them. I put him back down and held onto his reins as we walked back to the car. Watching him toddle around the park lifted my spirits and filled my heart with love. He wasn’t planned, but he was the best thing that had ever happened to me.
When we got home, Mum had made roast dinner and fussed over Charlie, too. Playing with his carpark on the floor with him, laughing, smiling, and trying to get him to say the word ‘nanna.’That night, the whole family snuggled up in the living room, in front of the fire and watched a kid’s film. My son fell asleep in my arms, so I took him up to my room, put him in his cot and went back downstairs with the baby monitor. I thought about Andie, and if she was getting chatted up by a random guy in the club. I shook my head and focused back on the film.
It was Saturday; my parents were on a date day, Charlie was back with Brooke, and I had no work. Throughout the day, I’d started on a new project in my workshop. I’d no specific idea in mind as I worked on autopilot. I stopped for a drink, sweat dripping down my head and down my back.
I stepped back to see my progress. At that point, it was just a plain box. Hmm, maybe a new toy for Charlie? My mind ran through the possibilities of what the box could become when I remembered the puzzle boxes Andie mentioned. My whole body filled with a warm energy.
I ran down the stairs, grabbed a cold drink from the fridge before running back up and sitting at the workshop bench to draw up some rough plans. The box would have little puzzles for her to solve before it would open, revealing a hidden gift inside. I decided on a dark wood with intricate carvings all around to finish. It was the perfect project to keep my mind occupied.
