I smiled. “Yeah. He wants to know why Carson can be in here with me, but he can’t.”

An “oh shit” look crossed Carson’s face.

Ruby rolled her eyes. “Don’t worry,” she told the man. “My brother isn’t coming in, and he won’t harm you.”

Carson visibly deflated like a balloon as though he’d been holding his breath.

“I think we owe this man a big tip tonight, ladies,” Ruby said.

As my fingers flew over my keys, I agreed.

Me:Poor baby. I’ll make it up to you tomorrow.

Husband:Tomorrow is so far away.

That earned another giggle from me. I shot him back some heart emojis and grabbed a plate. I was starving.

I was eating for two after all.

Looking over at River, I grinned at the pile on her plate before my eyes veered to Gemma and almost bugged right out of my head. Her plate was heaping. She looked up at me and winked.

Well, I guess that’s what it looked like when you were eating for three.

“It’s not fair,” I grumbled.

Rowan and Bodie both chuckled.

“Not this again.” Rowan slapped me on the back. “How long are you going to pout about not being able to go inside?”

I was about to tell him that it would probably be all night when headlights blinded me as a truck pulled up behind the vehicle we were all leaning against.

“Hey man, what are you doing here?” Rowan shouted.

The lights flicked off, the driver’s door opened, and Huntley hopped out. “Just coming by to check on River before I head home to help Bre and Lennon with Stormi and Forrest until Bronson gets off work,” he replied, walking toward us.

I made a scoffing sound. “Good luck with that.”

“Ignore him,” Rowan told Huntley. “He’s just mad that the delivery driver is inside and not him.”

Huntley’s gaze drifted toward the house for a second, then he looked back at us. “Yeah, well I have good reason to go in, and I’m not taking no for an answer.”

“Do you know the secret password or something?” Bodie inquired, a hopeful tone in his voice. “I really need to get in there too.”

Rowan glanced at the three of us. “Something is up with you guys. What is it?”

“Hey. Don’t act like you handle being away from your wife very well,” I told him. “If she was pregnant, you’d be going out of your mind.”

He shrugged. “Okay, you got me there.”

Then he pointed at the others. “But what’s the deal with the two of…” Rowan trailed off, his eyes widening. “Holy shit. You two knocked up your wives too?”

Looking at Huntley, and then Bodie, they both had shit-eating grins on their faces—total giveaways.

“River is telling the ladies tonight, so I guess it’s okay to spill the beans to you knuckleheads too,” Huntley told us.
