My eyes narrowed. “What do you mean, the room?”

Paxton sighed, a sure tell that I wasn’t going to like the answer he was about to deliver. “Sweetheart, you need to stay here tonight and be monitored. You weren’t even supposed to have left the hospital yet when you were taken and you’ve been roughed up pretty bad.”

When I started to shake my head, because I really needed to be with Paxton and hated being in the hospital, he jumped in again.

“Italia has to stay tonight for sure and we are not leaving her.” He brought our clasped hands up between us and kissed my fingers. “And I’m not leaving either of you.”

I looked back over through the window at my little girl, then back at my husband. They were my world.

“Okay, but even if I tell you to leave me, don’t listen to a word I say.”

I knew that my husband was probably kicking himself for listening to me the first time and having me disappear, but it was my fault. I was worried about our baby, and honestly, she would always come first.

A small smile lifted his cheeks and his sexy dimples appeared right before he said, “Not a chance, beautiful.”

“I love you,” I told him.

“I love you more,” he responded.

I wasn’t sure that was even possible because the love I had for him and our daughter had my heart about to burst from my chest.

But who was I to argue when I was so deliriously happy?

PAXTON

What a visionthe two of them made.

I couldn’t keep my eyes off my girls. Capri was exhausted, but she couldn’t bear to put Italia down. Listening as she cooed and baby talked to our daughter for hours into the night was adorable.

My eyes glistened as I watched. I could have lost them both and that scared the shit out of me. But I didn’t lose them and I was going to make sure every day they knew how much I loved them.

They owned my heart.

CAPRI

We were going home.

With Italia wrapped in a blanket in my arms, I was being wheeled by a nurse through the hospital, Pax right beside us. My sweet baby was doing good and she was the most beautiful sight I had ever seen.

Eyes glued to my daughter, I didn’t notice the crowd of people waiting by the exit until the last second. I should have known that my friends, the ones that I called family, would be there to see me.

“Looks like your fan club is back,” the sweet nurse said with a chuckle.

I knew she probably didn’t have time to stand around and wait for our big, crazy group to chit chat. “Sorry,” I told her.

“Don’t be sorry. It’s amazing the bond you all have.” She gave me a smile just as Ruby walked toward us.

“Hey, Chloe,” Ruby said. “I promise I will get our girl out to the car if you need to get back upstairs.”

Ruby and Chloe didn’t work in the same departments but they must have known each other being at the same hospital. Ruby wasn’t working as much these days, but nursing was her thing and she was damn good at it. It was where Lyric and her first met.

“Thanks, Ruby,” she replied. The nurse came around in front of me. “I’m so glad your guy and his friends found you and that you and your sweet baby are heading home.”

I looked at Pax, then Italia, and then back at the nurse. “Thank you so much. I knew he’d find me.”
