But my car sure did.

Click, click, click.

“You have got to be kidding me,” I said aloud into the empty car as I lay my head on the steering wheel.

Suddenly, a knock on my window had me jumping in my seat at the same time as a piercing scream left my lungs.

My head swiveled in the direction of the person standing outside next to my car to find none other than Paxton.

Embarrassed at my reaction, I got mad at him instead of myself. Made sense right? Having not put on my seatbelt yet, I threw the car door open practically hitting him with it and got out of the car.

My hands went to my hips and I gave him a furious glare. “Are you following me now? You scared the shit out of me and that’s just plain rude.”

“I’m sorry, I didn’t—”

I didn’t let him finish. “No you didn’t think at all, did you?” I let out a big, exaggerated huff.

Paxton’s face broke out into a smile. That was not fair at all. And I clearly was losing my mind with what I’d said next.

“Put those damn things away, that’s not fair.” Taking one hand off my hip, I waved it around in the direction of his face. “Your dimples should be illegal.”

That only made him smile bigger and his gorgeous blue eyes lit up as he did.

Double whammy.

“So the dimples work for you, huh?” he said in a sexy, teasing voice.

My face flamed hot and was sure to be beet red. I gave another glare and turned my back on him to get my purse back out of the car so I could find my phone.

I hated to call an Uber but I wasn’t going to ruin anyone's night and ask them to leave to take me home even if it made me nervous to get into a stranger's car.

“Listen,” Paxton said behind me. “I’m sorry I scared you. I was just watching to make sure you got to your car safely and then came out when it didn’t start.”

Fumbling around in my purse for a minute, I finally found my phone and swiveled back to face him.

“Fine, apology accepted.”

“What are you doing with the phone?”

“Calling for a ride, duh,” I replied sarcastically.

Paxton shook his head. “Yeah, I don’t think so. That’s not safe. You can either get a ride from me or we can go back inside and ask one of the others to give you one.”

Shit.

Asking the others wasn’t going to happen and I could see the stubborn look in Paxton’s eyes that said neither was me calling for a ride.

That left one choice.

Keeping my distance wasn’t easy when I found myself sitting next to him in his car.

A few seconds of silence went by before anything was said. And then…

“So, you like my dimples?”

I rolled my eyes, not that he could see me with his gaze on the road.

“No,” I lied.
