“Capri, I’d marry you right now if I thought you would take me, but I know you have your reservations about marriage after what you went through. I also don’t ever want you to think it’s only because of you being pregnant. Hear me now, though. One day I will convince you to be my wife.”
Big, salty tears dripped down her face and she managed to lean forward, throwing herself into my body. My hands left hers to grab her sides, but I went tumbling backward, and she came with me. She lay on top of me and pressed kisses all over my face.
Thank God I’d said the right thing. I meant every word, including the part where she’d be my wife. Having a baby made me think of having that traditional family lifestyle, but with all my heart it was about the woman who blanketed me with affection at that moment that truly made me want to be the husband she always deserved.
“I love you,” she softly said against my ear.
“I love you too. And the little one growing inside you.”
It was crazy the way I felt about Capri and within an instant my love not only went to her, but to the child we made together.
She planted both palms on my chest and pushed up to look at me. “I can’t believe there is a baby,” she said in wonder. “I never imagined finding someone like you or ever being a mother and while I didn’t mean for it to happen, I can only be gloriously happy.”
Capri looked just as she said, happy, but then her gaze darkened and that worried look set in again. “What if they find me, Pax? Nothing can happen to the baby.” Her voice trembled.
Sitting up, I took her with me and she straddled my lap. “We’ll get through this, I know it with all my heart.”
Wrapping a hand around the back of her neck, I drew her lips closer to mine and slanted my mouth over hers. We both put all our emotions into the kiss.
While I was a hundred percent into it, I still couldn’t stop my mind from thinking about one major thing.
I was going to be afather.
* * *
Maybe I should put morebabies in Capri.
The thought made me chuckle, but finding out she was pregnant, actually got her to leave the bakery closed and take a break.
“What are you laughing about?” she asked, as she sat on the couch, freshly showered, looking for a movie to watch on television.
She had been queasy all day, but the all-out vomiting had stopped shortly before lunch time. However, I didn’t think it would be a one-time thing, so I worried telling her my thoughts might have her throwing something at my head. And then that thought made me laugh again.
With her pointer finger, she poked me in the side. “Spill, Mister, and only the truth better fall from those kissable lips of yours.”
I gave her a sexy smirk. “You think my lips are kissable, do ya?”
Capri rolled her eyes and poked me again. “You know damn well they are so stop fetching for compliments. And as I’ve said before, put away those dimples.”
Not able to contain it, I threw my head back and laughed mercilessly. Once I got myself under control, I told her exactly what I had been thinking. Her mouth dropped open and hung there, no words emerging.
Finally, she seemed to close that sensual mouth of hers and her next words sent a burning desire straight through every molecule of my body.
“Well, I’m already pregnant, so you have many months to have your way with me without worrying about a baby. But I wouldn’t be opposed to another later on as long as they look exactly like their daddy.”
I was up off the couch in a nanosecond. Plucking the remote from her grasp, I tossed it onto the couch, and grabbed Capri’s hands, pulling her to a standing position. Because I adored carrying her and it made me feel like a caveman, I scooped her into my arms and started marching toward the bedroom.
“Hey, what about the movie? You said it was my pick!” she playfully said, a cute pout on her lips.
“Darlin’, you screwed the pooch on that one when you said I could have my way with you. But I will tell you one other thing.”
“Yeah, what’s that?” she asked, her arms wrapped around my neck and the feel of her voluptuous body next to mine causing my cock to grow rock-hard.
We reached the bedroom and I lay her down on the bed where she rested flat on her back, staring up at me with a heated gaze.
“Our child or children better look like their stunningly beautiful mother.”
No more words were exchanged for some time.
