The place was ruined and there wasn’t a spot untouched. Not even the walls that had big gaping holes in the sheetrock. It was a studio setup and all open so the only place we couldn’t see when first entering was the bathroom but I knew it would look the same.
Whoever was in her place had been looking for something specific. This left so many questions to find answers to. Did they find it? What was it? Would they be back? Was Capri in danger? While I didn’t have the answers to them all, instinct told me that I did have the answer to one.
Capri’s life was undoubtedly in danger.
The police had descended on the upstairs then and walked around with Capri checking to see if she’d noticed anything missing. From what she could tell, not a thing had been taken, which solidified the notion that the break-in was planned for a particular reason.
Anger burned through me at the thought of Capri being there when the person had come in. Knowing he had a gun and he’d shot at us, I wasn’t sure he wouldn’t have used it on her.
The security cameras were checked and while they had picked up a person at first, they couldn’t make out anything because of the black clothing, ski mask, and gloves. There were no prints and they had spray painted the lens of the security camera so besides the initial shot, they weren’t seen after that. They’d even managed to turn the alarm off and knew exactly what they were doing.
Braxton and the guys were pissed. Their systems were some of the best but there were people out there that had the brains to bypass them if they wanted to.
“I don’t want any of it,” I heard Capri mumble.
I looked over to find her standing in the middle of the room, staring at the disarray.
“They touched everything. It feels tainted and I don’t even want to wear my clothes.”
I took a deep breath and clenched my fists. It was obvious the bastard had even palmed every pair of her lingerie so I didn’t blame her. Capri had been holding it together but when everyone saw that, she’d almost lost it.
Hell, I almost lost it and told everyone to get the fuck out.
“Don’t worry, Brinley and Ruby dropped off some stuff at the condo for you,” Rowan told her.
“And we’ll go shopping to grab whatever you need tomorrow,” I added.
Capri looked around the room at each of us. “Thank you,” she whispered. “Can we go now?”
I could hear some defeat in her tone and nobody would blame how she felt. I could also see she was hanging on by a thread and working to not break down.
“Yeah, darlin’, we can go.” I softly placed my hand on her lower back to lead her out.
“You guys go ahead, we’re going to take care of boarding up the door and making sure things are locked up,” Gyth told us.
Capri mumbled another thank you and I gave the guys a chin lift.
“You got this?” Lyric asked just as we stepped into the hall.
“Yup. I got it covered,” I answered as protectiveness raged through me.

All wasquiet when we got to the empty condo.
I wasn’t sure if the ladies would be hanging around needing to see Capri for themselves. I wouldn’t have put it past them and would understand but was thankful that wasn’t the case. The exhaustion in her eyes told me that anyone fussing over her may have sent her over the edge that she was desperately trying to hang on to.
“Here we are,” I said as Capri hovered just over the threshold of the doorway, inside.
“This is really nice,” she whispered but made no attempt to move further into the room.
Not wanting to push, I stood there waiting to see what she needed.
All of a sudden she spun around to face me, a hesitant, worried look in her eyes.
“What is it?” I asked softly.
She bit the inside of her bottom lip and I wanted to soothe it. I wanted to make everything better for her and take away the scared look that was on her face.
