“Okay, but we can get ready fast,” Peyton said as they both ran off toward their door and then disappeared inside.
I was giggling when Bodie turned his attention back to me. The smile he had on his face looked a lot better than the expression he’d worn when I opened the door.
“Thank you. We can go at whatever time works for you.”
“Give me an hour to grab some breakfast and get dressed. Will that work?”
He looked thoughtful for a minute before responding. “How about I give you that hour but we get breakfast on the way? Lyric told me about Mabel’s Diner but we haven’t been there yet and he says they have amazing food, including breakfast.”
My stomach growled. Loudly.
“I’ll take that as a yes,” he said, letting out a deep chuckle that sent a shiver down my spine.
His laugh did funny things to me. But when he winked, I felt it in all my girly parts.
“You’re on,” I said, backing into my place further. “See you in an hour.”
“We’ll pick you up.” He laughed at himself and it was endearing.
“You sure it’s not out of your way?” I teased.
He pointed at me as he started backing down the hall. “Funny.” When he turned around and made his way to his door, I couldn’t help but ogle his backside.
The man filled out a pair of jeans like no other.
After closing the door, I leaned back against it and sighed.
What the hell was happening to me?
* * *
Breakfast was delicious.
Lyric had found a gem of places to eat when he’d walked into Mabel’s and was an angel for telling us about it. It ended up being a special place for him and Ruby not only for the exceptional food but other reasons like the fact that Mabel and her husband were adorable.
Even if Mabel was a busybody. But so were all my friends so I was used to it. She had fussed over us and paid special attention to Peyton and Piper who ate up the attention—Piper a bit more shyly than her sister—like cute starving children.
The way we all ate you’d think the four of us were all starved.
With an overindulged stomach, I wasn’t sure how I managed to make my way around the zoo, but I had, and even managed to share an elephant ear with Bodie. Because who could say no to the sugary cinnamon treat? Well, some people probably could but that someone wasn’t me.
After grabbing two desserts, one for the kids, and another for the adults, we copped a squat in the grass where a bird show was about to start. It had been about a year since I had come to the zoo with my friends and their kids but it never got old. The animals acted differently each time and seeing the way Peyton and Piper lit up watching was great.
And walking around with Bodie made it feel new.
I tipped my head back, closed my eyes, and let the semi-warm October sun heat my face. There were a few clouds but the temperature was perfect for the animals, not too hot and not too cold.
“Want a bite?”
Bodie’s deep, sexy voice washed over me, heating me more than the sun in the sky ever could and goosebumps rippled across my skin. My eyes opened at his question and I looked over at him holding a bite out to me to take from his hand.
I’d obviously lost my ever-loving mind because instead of taking it, my body leaned closer to his and I opened my mouth, slowly taking the heavenly treat with my mouth. Bodie’s eyes widened and the quick intake of breath told me he was surprised. Hell, I was shocked too.
The move was so unlike me.
One, I didn’t do things like that with anyone. And two, in my opinion being so open there had to be a certain amount of trust between two people to be so carefree. There was something about the man who was staring at me like I’d grown horns that made me comfortable in a way nobody else had.
Maybetoocomfortable.
